My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet itty bitty Lacey! This darling little smooth coat was dumped at a Colorado shelter with her mother when she was just 3 months old…then proceeded to spend another 3 months there before WBCR was called in to help. Both Lacey and her mother Cotton were underweight, undersocialized, and terribly frightened when they arrived in rescue. The pair went to a foster home together for a few weeks before separating them so that Lacey can grow and develop her individuality and confidence more easily.

Little Lacey has already come a LONG way since coming into rescue and will continue to improve and learn the world is not such a scary place after all. Although she is curious and interested in new things, Lacey does get nervous more often than not in new situations, and she is still trying to figure out what humans are for and if they are going to hurt her. However, she is not at all confrontational or defensive when frightened…she simply tries to hide or curls into a ball. Once she knows you, she is comfortable with being touched and petted, and she has just begun to approach humans on her own for attention.

In the company of other dogs, Lacey is a whole different creature! She is SUPER playful and it is especially in playful canine company or when she feels safe in her yard, when her heart is light and happy, that Lacey shines and you can see the true pup she is. She will run and frolic around the yard with another dog, or even alone if she is by herself, picking up sticks or toys and tossing them around (yes, she is learning to enjoy toys!) Sometimes she will run just for the joy of running, and gets the crazy puppy zoomies quite regularly. This silly pup will even wrestle with the cat her in foster home!

Lacey has a pretty high energy level and loves to go for walks and hikes. While she certainly can go the distance, she also knows how to curl up and have an off button once the adventures of the day are over. She is starting to show some herding instinct and would likely excel at dog sports or herding – add a few dogs and toys to the mix and she will be in Heaven!!

Lacey is cratetrained, almost 100% housetrained, and learning the basics in her foster home. Lacey will really blossom in a loving and patient home that has another confident and playful dog for her to pal around with and to help show her how to cope with life’s adventures. She will also do best with a family who is committed to helping build her confidence through continued basic training as well as slow exposure to the world. There’s a silly playful pup under her frightened exterior just itching to get out, and if you have the time and willingness to help her bloom, you are going to have found yourself one darling, lively, charming little companion!

Lacey is spayed, fully vetted and living in a loving foster home near Fort Collins, CO.
