My story

Lucky is a beautiful boy with a big smile.

He is an about 2.5 year old Doberman mix weighing 65lbs.

He got his first stroke of luck when the SPCA Puerto Vallarta took him in from a family that had him tied up all day.

Not exactly ideal for socializing a young dog to the world. When he has the opportunity, he tries to make up for lost time as he soaks in the world around him.

He comes across as excited and adventurous when out – with a lot of energy to burn (no wonder). While he has limited guests due to COVID related limits to sanctuary visits, Lucky shows subtle signs of ‘stranger danger’ when guests come into his ‘home’…

These are subtle and can be misinterpreted (he does a little freeze and can then be frenetic – jumping around and up on people). This just means he’s not sure what to do – conflicted with curiosity but also not sure if its safe.

This could easily come from his limited exposure to the world at an early age. He will therefore need a safe, quiet yet active, understanding home who can slowly work on building his confidence.

He is playful and feels a bit desperate to be loved. Lucky is selective with dogs, and typically prefers female dogs.

But once introduced, he does like a good rough and tumble play date.

He is a smart boy and his luckiest moment would be finding a quiet home, with a fenced yard where he can run and play.

A home willing to invest in making him comfortable and channeling his energy through positive reinforcement training and enrichment.

He would be best in a home without kids.

Lucky is healthy, neutered and vaccinated, and is looking for a future in British Columbia.

He can fly to Vancouver where he needs to be picked up at YVR.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We screen all applications and in most cases require a home check prior to placement. An approved adoption application must be on file before meetings are set up, as our dogs are in foster homes. We charge a $550 USD adoption fee. We routinely follow up with a visit or at least a phone call after placement. We solicit follow up photos and publish adoptions in our weekly newsletter.

More about this rescue

PVCA Animal Rescue is the sister organization of the SPCA Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. We facilitate the transportation and adoption of rescue dogs into loving forever homes. PVCA is a network of volunteers, transporters, and foster homes. The mission of SPCA de PV is to help fund and promote sterilization, adoption and healthcare efforts for companion animals in the Puerto Vallarta area, with the goal of eliminating the euthanasia of healthy and adoptable animals. SPCA de PV is not supported by the government, corporations, foundations or businesses. The dogs & cats of Mexico are too often found living on the streets after being discarded and/or extremely abused. We devote ourselves to their physical and emotional rehabilitation and invite everyone to come and interact with the animals at our sanctuary. Compassion Knows No Boundaries!
