My story

My name is Kane! I may not be the easiest rescue to adopt, but with patience, love, and your support, I will leave a lasting warm footprint on your heart. Here's a little bit about me...Everyone thinks I am handsome (Who am I to argue?) and super smart. As a natural homebody, I don't require much outside of caring adults that I don't have to share with any other animals, a fenced yard to play in, a couch to lay on, scratches, lots of patience, and tons of love. I do enjoy going out on hiking adventures too, it that is your thing. I come with my very own individualized adoption package! I can't say what it is, as I'm sworn to secrecy! You have to contact the shelter for the scoop! I have been here for quite awhile. Please contact the shelter if you think you may be the jelly to my peanut butter. I promise you unconditional love, goofy grins, and a whole lot of laughter in return.

Go meet their pets

We do our meet and greets by appointment since most of the animals in our care are actually in foster homes.

We are open the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month for walk-in visits, education and donations. Some pets may be on-site, but we do recommend submitting a meet and greet before coming.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society for Boone County is a private not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization almost entirely volunteer operated and dedicated to the task of animal welfare, rescue and education in Boone County, Indiana. The shelter operates through a network of generous donors, volunteers and foster families.

HSforBC has no powers to act as animal control, but will work in conjunction with law enforcement as requested.

Found/stray animals are advertised and held for a minimum of 7 days. Animals that are not claimed will be brought up-to-date with vaccinations, microchipped, altered and become available for adoption.
