My story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch date: 2005

Roxanne is a 17yo suspected female Congo African Grey.

She does enjoy the company of other birds and we would like for her forever home to have other birds. Her foster home has another female African Grey and they chat back and forth all day.

Roxanne is on a fruited ZuPreem diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Her favorites are green grapes, blackberries, snap peas and broccoli. She likes to toss her chop out of her bowl then forage for it on the bottom of her enclosure. She also loves splashing in her water bowl.

Roxanne is a very independent, and stubborn girl who is very often LOUD. She is very skeptical of new people, especially men. It is preferred that her primary caregiver be female, and she be adopted to an adult only household. She will solicit for beak pets and head scratches from her foster mom when inside her enclosure. Her go to phrases is "what's going on," "good morning" and "I love you." Otherwise, she does imitate smoke alarm beeps very often throughout the day.

She gets very upset by loud sounds and commotion. We are looking for a calm, child-free, single-family home for Roxanne. Apartment or townhouse dwellers will not work for Roxanne.

She loves hanging out on perches outside her cage or on top of her enclosure but can sometimes be coaxed off onto a nearby table with a pistachio.

Roxanne will step up for her foster mom if she does venture off the cage but will not step up when on her cage. Once she does step up, she will accept head scratches. She is full flighted but will generally only take flight if spooked.

As previously mentioned, Roxanne is very independent and takes time to earn her trust. If you are a forever home that can appreciate that, please complete an adoption application for her.

She will NOT be adopted to a home with a male CAG.

Roxanne is being fostered in Parsippany, NJ and will only be adopted to a forever home within easy driving distance.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated private foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA, we do not have a central location. As our adoptable birds are living in our volunteers' homes, only approved applicants are allowed visit.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
