My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Eddie is a typical lab — happy, goofy, playful, loves everyone, enjoys walks, and absolutely lives life to the fullest. Eddie also happens to be blind and seems to have very limited hearing — but apparently no one told Eddie that, as he acts just like every other lab! Eddie has an A+ temperament, and despite his rough start to life (he was found abandoned in a building in the high desert), Eddie is super sweet to every human and animal he meets. Eddie enjoys playing with his canine foster siblings, and he loves a good belly rub from the humans in his foster family. Eddie is fully potty trained, crate trained and is totally trustworthy in the house. Eddie sleeps through the night either on a dog bed or in his crate. Eddie likes spending mellow mornings laying around the house or in the yard, but he also gets very excited for his walks. Eddie would love a home with another playful, sweet dog to keep him company.

Foster update #1: Eddie is one cool dude. He’s one of the most easygoing dogs ever, nothing rattles him. He’s learned his way around the house, especially where he eats his meals, knows where the doors are and waits to be let out, loves his walks with our other dogs, and loves a good wrestling match with our 4 yr old lab. He also loves a good nap. He doesn’t get into any trouble, he just loves to be loved. We always approach him with an open hand so he can sniff out who’s who, and he greets everyone with a wagging tail.

Foster update #2: Everything previously said about Eddie is very true. He loves people, children are fun, adults also, he likes dogs large and small, frisky and calm. He is an enjoyable dog to have around, sleeps through the night without a fuss. I keep him crated at night as there are 4 other dogs in the home and bumping into one could result in everyone being up and about. Eddie enjoys his crate and goes to it frequently during the day to nap.

Eddie is trustworthy in the home when the people are away. He has learned the routine and knows when it is time to eat, go for his walk and bedtime. He no longer bumps into things to find his way in the house or yard. It has taken almost 3 months for him to be able to do that, so he needs clear passageways in the home without lots of clutter or furniture moving. He seems to truly enjoy the dog door and the opportunity to choose when he goes in or out. Sunning himself is a favorite on sunny days that aren’t too hot.

Eddie walks about a mile each morning, it is easier to walk him alone as he frequently stops, and goes back the way he came to find a good smell and check it out. I allow him to do this as he has very little other stimulation. He has made several good friends in the neighborhood, human and canine, and loves his walk. He would likely enjoy two or more walks a day. He needs to be helped in to the car but once in the vehicle he rides nicely. He would probably enjoy going places where there are groups of people and dogs.
