April is ready for adoption!

A home with a pack (at least 1 balance dog), cats are ok, kids would be nice and daily walks are a must so April continues to become the best dog ever. April once feral now just timid but warms up within hours to a new environment, surroundings, and all people. April came to AHS when she and her sister were labeled aggressive feral by another rescue. You see the girls were part of a group of dogs that belong to a hunter, a total of 6 dogs. All lived in a raised homemade cage. Only 1 dog of the 6 had ever touched the ground or experience some life outside that cage but was limited to a chain that wrapped his neck. April and the others had never been out of that cage. We at AHS stepped up to take all but another rescue wanted the girls, great! Right?! WRONG! We as a rescue stepped up to take the girls. This rescued believed the girls were pregnant and puppies get adopted quickly. Fast forward 4 weeks and quickly it was found out they were not pregnant which meant, NO PUPPIES! Therefore reached out to us and let us know unless we took the girls they were going to be euthanized. That did NOT SETTLE WELL WITH US. We made arrangements and picked up the girls. This was May of 2019. All were extremely feral reactive dogs only because they had never experienced life, interaction with humans, and lived in a homemade raised wire crate their whole lives. You see, hounds are considered tools and if they don't or won't hunt they are then deemed worthless. Well, fast forward to now. People like these are wrong and hounds, all hounds are amazing dogs. They make amazing family members and are capable of adjusting to new environments and learning to be the best dogs they can be. It just requires time and effort on our part. April is ready for the next step in her rehabilitation. And as of a few days now April has been moved to a foster home in the big city and she is doing as expected, very well. April and her sisters are the 2 left for adoption now. The others all have found their happiness forever and doing well.
Meet April is a 3-year-old coon hound beagle mix at 42 pounds, fully vetted, spayed, in great health, and progressing wonderfully with her rehab training. April is very food motivated, loves toys, and more so she has learned to trust and LOVE people. If you didn't know, hounds are amazing. April is not a hunting tool nor will she be good at hunting. She enjoys all critters including the bird's flock, pigs, and horses at Cindy's home she's been exposed too. April has been exposed to it all and done with very well. And as of a few days, she's adjusting fabulously to big city living with her foster family.
April is house and crate trained up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, spayed and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention.
Out of stare adopters are welcome at the adopters expense.We do NOT ship and a meet and greet is required before adoption unless you are a previous adopter.
Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise daily that have to be addressed and or rewarded. Continue training is a must.
