My story

Hi! My name is Leo and I am a 5 yr old Blue Heeler mix. I am an "old soul" despite my relatively young age. My foster mom describes me as sweet, shy, gentle and mellow. Before coming to Herding Haven rescue I was on the run for several weeks. In fact, I was so elusive that animal welfare had to bring in experienced dog trappers to finally catch. Then I spent another month in the shelter where I sat huddled in the corner of my kennel absolutely terrified. Now that I have had time to decompress in my foster home I am staring to show my personality a little bit. I am timid when first meeting new people but warm up quickly and love ear and chin scratches. True to my breed, once I trust you I glue myself to your side. I have a low- moderate energy level. A daily walk is all I need. I am good with other, mellow dogs (puppies tend to annoy me). Cats are a definite "no" so a home without cats is a must. Young children are scary to me, so kid free home would be best (children over the age of 13 yr would be OK). I am crate-trained (although I don't need a crate), house-broken, neutered and fully vaccinated. If you are interested in meeting me, please contact

More about this rescue

Herding Haven is a non-profit (501c3) organization that rescues and rehabilitates dogs with special needs so that they may become more adoptable. The dogs in our rescue come largely from shelters where they have been deemed "unadoptable" to the general public due to physical disabilities, medical problems and/or behavioral issues. Herding Haven provides medical care, physical and behavioral rehabilitation and then works to very hard to find the dogs the perfect forever home.
