My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**JESS HAS BEEN ADOPTED!** Pal's Place would love to introduce you to two exceptional girls in need of an exceptional home. Freya and her sister Jess are a bonded pair of 3.5 year-old female Irish Wolfhounds. While they are large dogs, they are incredibly petite for their breed. Freya is the larger of the two and weighs in at 85 pounds. Jess is a bit smaller and weighs closer to 75 pounds. They are so small; we weren't convinced they were purebred; however, a DNA test confirmed they are indeed purebred Irish Wolfhounds. These girls found themselves in need of rescue after their owner died. Unfortunately, they were never properly socialized when they were young. Before coming to Pal's Place, they had never left the house/yard they grew up in. They never had collars/leashes on, never went for a walk, never had seen a veterinarian, and were exposed to very few people. They have been in our care for a couple of months now and have made tremendous strides but are still highly skittish with new people and in new environments. It took them about a month to warm up to their foster parent, but once they feel comfortable, they are incredibly affectionate, full of tail wags and kisses for those familiar to them, but it takes a lot of patience and time to win their trust. They will now walk on leads but still spook very easily when out for walks. They wear martingale collars to prevent them from slipping their collars and chain leashes when out for walks as they will attempt to chew through their leads when scared. These girls can and will easily clear a 4-5 foot fence if frightened, so a very secure fence at least 6 feet in height is a firm requirement for their new home. They are not aggressive at all, but they will not be placed in a house with children due to their very skittish nature. Jess and Freya are good with other dogs and are being fostered with several others but are NOT cat-safe. However, Freya can be a bit of an alpha female, and we would prefer to place her as the only female dog in the home (aside from her sister). We are looking for a home experienced with Wolfhounds or another Sighthound breed and would love to find a home experienced working with nervous dogs like them. They are not first-time dog owners, but with lots of extra time and patience, they will reward their new guardians with love, affection, and loyalty in time. They are well behaved in the home and are housebroken. They cannot be crated but are not destructive and are trustworthy with free-run of the house. The girls have recently been spayed, are microchipped, and are up-to-date with vaccines. They are also heartworm negative and taking monthly flea and heartworm prevention. Their adoption fee to the rescue as a pair is $750. Please reach out to us today if you can provide a safe, quiet, patient, and loving environment for these girls. They are in a foster home, and we can only schedule a meet and greet after an approved application has been received. A vet reference, home-check, and securely fenced yard are required for their adoption. For more information or an application, please email palsplace1@hotmail.com.
