My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nadia was left chained to our front step by an irresponsible owner. She visited the vet and weighed 44 pounds at the time. She's about 55-60 pounds now and about 2-3 years old. She's just above knee-high, and is a true "velcro-dog" in every sense. She wants to be near people all the time. If you aren't moving around she makes sure she's either laying at your feet or you are within sight. Nadia does bark when strangers come over, but quickly quiets down. She's usually a very quiet dog. She gets along with other dogs of all sizes (her best doggy-friend is under 5 pounds), and loves kids. She likes cats, but is overly curious. She's fine if they stand their ground and let her sniff them and play with them, but if they run she will give chase! Nadia plays by putting one foot (gently) on the back of the animal she's playing with. She does this with both dogs and cats, but she's never done it with people. Nadia has a wirey outer-coat. She is fully potty trained and will let you know when she needs to go out to go potty. When she first arrived she had an issue with submissive pee, but she's fine now. She just needs time to trust people. She loves car rides and is very gentle and loving toward everyone she meets. She is vaccinated, microchipped, and will be spayed before she can be adopted. More information on Nadia is available at http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/MN148.html

Nadia tested positive for heartworms and lyme disease when she went in for her spay (June 2006). The vet said it was too dangerous to anesthetize her with the heartworms, so she will need to be treated before she can be spayed. We've already broken the $1,000 mark with Nadia's veterinary care, but she's finally tested negative for heartworms! She goes back to the vet in May (2007) to be retested, and if she's still negative (which is expected), she will be spayed and placed up for adoption! Please donate to help with her expensive care!
