My story

Foster Homes Needed!

Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog?

*****************

Rain is a gorgeous silver/blue bully/lab mix girl with hazel eyes, about 2-4 years old and 50 lbs.  She was saved from a kill shelter in NC, originally found as a stray.   She is quiet and incredibly loving with people, but she can be reactive towards other dogs (therefore, she does not “show well” during crowded adoption events around other dogs).  She needs to be the only dog (no cats, no small critters) in the household to be safe and stress free.  She would be fine around older children, but  no 'toddlers as they could get knocked down due to her size and exuberance.

Rain is a sweet, affectionate girl and smart.  She knows some basic obedience but needs to learn to walk properly on a leash, as she is a strong puller.   She is  active  and needs a securely fenced yard (5-6 ft solid fence), for enough free run exercise time.  A home with large dog breed experience (especially pittie experience) would be best for this girl.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in our process is the application which can be completed either online or at one of our adoption events. We would then conduct an interview with all members of the household. We do a vet reference if applicable, and lastly, we do a home visit. Our adoption fee is $285 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all required vaccines, tested for heartworm and tickborne diseases, and on year-round heartworm preventative. Lastly, all dogs are microchipped.

We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. See our website for a full list of our upcoming events http://www.muttloverescue.org/events.html

More about this rescue

Mutt Love Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Washington, DC, metro area. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason – dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect.

We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
