My story

Apache is a young (born 5.25.19) neutered male Akita. He is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained.

Apache came to us from a family that also owned a senior small dog. The small dog would pick on Apache all the time and the owners were themselves elderly. They were afraid that the puppy would grow up and hurt the small dog. Apache is great with all dogs, thought took him a minute to warm up to larger dogs. He would do well with a female dog or as an only.

Apache was placed into a good home last year, but unfortunately the female in the home ultimately did not want a sibling. Apache was placed again this passed year and did wonderful in the home with the other female Akita, but unfortunately he became too rough with the cat.

Even though this guy has been through a few homes already, he is still a sweet boy who can do well in a home as an only pet and with children 12+.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require anyone interested in one of our orphans fill out an application. If that is approved, we will do a home inspection and then have the whole family, including any dogs, come meet the dog(s) they are interested in. We ask an adoption donation of $350; this helps defer the costs of veterinary care and daily upkeep of our orphans. We are non-profit and all funds come from public donations.

Go meet their pets

Our available orphans can also be found on our website, Facebook, and on Some of them are available to meet in person at Fur Frenzy Pet Spa, located in the Regency Hilltop Shopping Center, 1952 Laskin Road, Suite 505, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. We will occasionally attend adoption events in the Hampton Roads area; for the most up-to-date information about all our orphans and when/where you can meet them, check our Facebook page often!

We are a federal non-profit corporation, with 501(c)(3) designation, dedicated to helping Akitas in need. We generally serve Virginia, North Carolina, and parts of South Carolina, but we work where the Akitas need us to! We offer adoptable dogs, rescue, education, and support to Akita owners and adopters nation wide. We are recognized by the Akita Club of America (ACA) and abide by their Code of Ethics.

It is our goal to help Akitas in need, educated the public about this wonderful breed, and support Akita owners with any problems they may be having. We primary pull our Akitas from shelters, and we will help an owner re-home an Akita, if necessary, by courtesy listing on our site, assisting with screening applicants, and providing advice on training and behavioral issues.
