My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pixie is an absolutely adorable little pup who joined us a few weeks ago, rescued from a overcrowded, understaffed facility in Texas. As cute as she is, no one wanted her. Like all dogs in Texas facilities, her chances of getting out alive were very slim.

We feel Pixie is most worthy of a home of her own, and it’s very obvious that she has never had one, never received the attention and affection she so deserves.

Pixie is a Dachshund Mix, possibly a Dachshund-Cocker Spaniel Mix, estimated to be 3 years old, weighing about 17 lbs. She’s friendly with people and will do just about anything for attention! She's a little shadow and loves to be where her people are.

We believe Pixie’s experience with other dogs has been minimal; she tends to be jealous and reactive toward them when they are receiving the attention she so craves. She SHOULD be the center of attention and would do best as an only dog.

Pixie is learning to walk nicely on a leash. When she arrived at our Safe House, it appeared she had never had any such experience. With patience and commitment from her new family, surely Pixie will master this skill. Nonetheless, Pixie definitely would greatly enjoy a secure yard to run and play whenever she wanted.

An ideal family for Pixie is one having patience, love, compassion, and an understanding of her neglectful past…..and a commitment to ensure that every day is her best day ever! Although absolutely adorable, affectionate and a wonderful companion to her people, Pixie does need some work on her socializing skills and her confidence. She needs to realize that she will not be abandoned or left behind when someone else is getting attention. As such, a home with no other dogs or small children is best for her. In addition, a family experienced with the Dachshund breed could be helpful.

Pixie is fully vetted, up-to-date on all vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm prevention.
