My story

*ADOPT ME!*
Sugar - 5 years old, located in Idaho
Dog ID#: 210933-P-B-GA
Intake Date: 8/3/2021
Available Date: December 2021

I’m Sugar, sometimes called Sugar Pop or Sugar Bear, depending on if I’m popping around or snuggling up. I spent my whole life on a hunting plantation where I was a very good hunting dog. Then my hips started to bother me, and they gave me to PRO to find me a furever home.

Foster mom says I have taken to house living like a Queen returned to her throne. All I know is that if house living means padded deck chairs in the sunshine, soft warm beds at night and my person with me most of the time, I am all about house living.

Because I like the house so much, I have never had an accident; I don’t jump up on counters or furniture. I am a very good girl when left alone; I mostly sleep so I am well rested for our next adventure.

Here’s what I like—running and sniffing, hunting and ranging around, napping in the sunshine, napping in my comfy dog bed, snuggling and being patted, everyone I have ever met, riding in the car and going for outings and on adventures.

Here’s what I don’t like—never getting off the leash, dogs who are too rambunctious or playful, being left alone for hours on end.

Foster mom calls me a rare gem and says I will be someone’s dream dog.

Sugar is extremely well mannered, very calm, very loving. She enjoys her walks and times when she can run around. She has a stellar recall so she is safe off-leash. After her walk, she is ready to come home and happily naps. Though very good when left alone, Sugar would probably get bored and lonely if left for long periods. She is great in the car and is good company on errands or road trips.

Sugar will be happiest as an only dog or with a calm and disinterested companion. She loves people and loves attention, though is never demanding or pushy. She just wants to be with you, doing whatever you are doing, or sleeping nearby. She is a great friend and companion.

I love this breed and I love all my fosters, yet in that pool of remarkable dogs, Sugar stands out as exceptional. She brings a dignity, intelligence and whole-heartedness to everything she does. She is happy and bouncy; it is impossible to spend time with her and not find yourself smiling or laughing.

Sugar had a hip replacement in early October and will be ready to go to her furever home in December.
