My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or in the North / Central Texas area.

NAME: Ruthie
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 2 years
WEIGHT: About 9 – 10 Pounds
DOGS/CATS: Only Dog or With a Submissive Dog
CHILDREN: Recommend Adult Only

Introducing one of our Mama dogs – Ruthie. If you are looking for a faithful companion, then Ruthie is your girl.

Ruthie came to CRT from a hoarder home. There were between 40 – 50 dogs at the home. When we got her, Ruthie was very pregnant. On June 16, 2021 Ruthie had six bouncing babies. Ruthie has now completed her duties as a Mom and has completed all her vet work. She is now ready to find her forever home!

Ruthie is a leader. She gets along with the other foster dogs in her foster home as they are more laid back. She has started playing with them a little and loves chasing them in the back yard. Ruthie’s biggest thing is she does not like to share her toys! This may be a result of her time in her original home with so many animals. Ruthie loves to play with toys. She will play by herself or will play with her owner. But she does not think sharing is an option – LOL. Ruthie hopes you have a toy box ready for her! We believe Ruthie would do well as either an only dog, or maybe with one other small submissive doggie friend.

Ruthie loves her Foster Mom. She is shy to begin with but warms up quickly to her owner. She loves to cuddle with you. She enjoys her time with you and wants to hang around with you and enjoy family activities. Ruthie is very loyal. You can often find her waiting at the door for you when you arrive home. She is so happy to see you! Note that Ruthie is cautious with men so we believe she may have been mistreated by one in her previous home. She may feel more comfortable living with a single woman.

Our vet estimates that Ruthie is about 2 years old. She weighs about 9 – 10 pounds. She has a beautiful white coat with black and tan markings (tri-color). Her puppies all had the same coloring. Ruthie is a mix and we were wondering what her DNA said. So we did a DNA test on her puppies and it came back as follows: 66% Chihuahua, 10% Shih Tzu, 6% Miniature Pincher, 5% Cocker Spaniel and 4% Yorkshire Terrier. So apparently she is mostly Chihuahua! No matter what her mix – she is adorable.

Ruthie is very smart. She knows several commands including “sit”, “drop” and “back”. She is learning every day, and would enjoy learning new commands if you will teach her. Ruthie will bark if she hears strange noises, but settles down quickly. For that reason, we do not believe she is apartment appropriate. She is also wary of children, so we recommend an adult home only. Our belief is that some of these habits will change as Ruthie settles in and learns that her family has her back. But for now, an all adult (preferrably female) home where she is the only pet would be a perfect home for her.

Ruthie is potty trained as long as she is kept on a regular schedule. She does know how to use a doggy door. Ruthie prefers to sleep with her family at night, but she will sleep in a crate if desired. Ruthie loves daily walks and is very curious on her walks. Ruthie hopes her new family will walk with her every day.

Ruthie is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Ruthie is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready for adoption.

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $324.75 adoption donation required ($300 adoption donation and $24.75 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
