My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Bonnie
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 3 – 5 Years
WEIGHT: About 8.5 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Good with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Should be fine with older, mature children (12 and older)

Meet one of our newest fosters, Bonnie. The name Bonnie means pretty, attractive, and cheerful. This is a perfect description for this girl. You will love her.

In mid August, we received a call asking if we would be willing to help with a hoarding situation where there were over 30 Chihuahuas. We worked with the family and took seven Chihuahuas. Bonnie and her two, 2 week old puppies (Will and Grace) came to CRT from this family. Bonnie was been the perfect Mom – nursing and protecting her puppies. The puppies are now old enough to be on their own. Bonnie has just completed her vet work and is ready for her forever family!

Bonnie gets along with the other small dogs in her foster home. Bonnie is very laid back and is independent. She often ignores the other dogs in her foster home. She lets them do their thing, and she does her thing! We think she would be excellent as an only dog in her forever home. This is not because she does not get along. But she favors her humans over relationships with the other dogs!

Bonnie’s favorite thing in the world is her family! Bonnie is shy and cautious when she first meets you, but she begins to relax, and then she adores her humans. She loves to follow you around and participate in family activities. She especially enjoys crawling up on your lap for snuggles and love. During TV time, she often falls asleep on your lap as you both enjoy your favorite TV program!

Our vet estimates that Bonnie is 3 – 5 years old. She currently weighs about 8.5 pounds, but is still losing some of her pregnancy weight. Her ideal weight is about 7 pounds, and she should be there shortly. Bonnie has a light tan coat and beautiful expressive eyes.

Bonnie is sweet and very gentle. Her ideal home would be one that was laid back with moderate activity. We think she would love to be the only dog and bask in your attention. She would also be fine with other small easy going dogs. Bonnie would love to live with a retired or a work at home family, as her favorite thing is her humans! She would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days. Loud noises startle her, and she reacts by barking (although she quiets down quickly). For that reason, we do not believe she would do well in an apartment setting. There are no children in her foster home, but she would probably be fine with older children (teenagers).

Bonnie is very smart. She does well with her potty habits when she is kept on a schedule. At night, Bonnie loves to cuddle in bed with her family. Bonnie is new to being on a leash, and she is making steady improvements.

Bonnie is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Bonnie is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready to join a loving family, could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $324.75 adoption donation required ($300 adoption donation and $24.75 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
