My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Charlie
GENDER: Male (Neutered)
AGE: Born November 11, 2020
WEIGHT: About 8-9 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Fine with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Does well with older, mature children (10 years and older)

Meet Charlie. This handsome guy has a stunniung long coat. He looks just like his Mom (Ella) and has the sweetest personaltiy.

In mid October of 2020, we received a call asking if we would be willing to help with a hoarding situation where there were over 50 Chihuahuas. Two were pregnant and there were many others in need. We worked with the family and took both pregnant Chihuahuas, plus 25 other dogs! Ella was one of the pregnant Chihuahuas. On November 11th, she had four puppies! Charlie is one of Ella’s puppies.

Charlie is a laid back little guy – especially for a puppy! He is great with the other small dogs in his foster home! He loves to run and play with them. He also enjoys exploring the yard and chasing squirrels. Charlie loves napping in the sun. He does not play with toys much.

Charlie’s favorite thing in the world is his family! Charlie adores his family. Charlie is a little shy and cautious when he first meets you. But he warms up quickly and is very friendly. He enjoys meeting new people. Charlie loves to cuddle. He gets very attached to his immediate family and wants to be on your lap throughout the day and evening. He will follow you around from room to room, and run over often to get love and snuggles. Note that he likes to be so close to you that he can get under your feet so he may be a tripping hazard (we are working with him on that). Sometimes he will fall sound asleep on your lap for a quick nap. His joyful spirit makes us smile.

Charlie was born on Nov 11th. He is about 8-9 pounds and is fully grown. Charlie has a beautiful reddish and white long coat. He loves, loves, LOVES to have his coat brushed! Being a puppy, Charlie would enjoy another small dog to grow up with. (Applications will not be considered where he would be the only dog). He also needs a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). Charlie would be great in a home that had a moderate level of activity. He loves the human sister in her foster home, and would do great with older mature children over the age of 10.

Charlie is very smart. He does well with his potty habits when he is kept on a schedule. He has learned to use the doggy door in his foster home. He is a fast learner and will have his new routine down in no time. He loves treats, and has learned to “sit” for a treat. At night, Charlie sleeps soundly in his crate. He probably would enjoy sleeping with his family if you would let him.

Charlie struggled with intestinal issues when he was young. He visited a specialist, who put him on medications to address this. This is now at a controlled state, but he will always need to be on a special diet. He may also have an occasional bout of diarreah due to his situation. His new family will need to be aware of this, and work with Charlie to eat healthy foods.

Charlie is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Charlie is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. He is ready for adoption, and cannot wait to find his forever home.

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $324.75 adoption donation required ($300 adoption donation and $24.75 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
