My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stormie von Strohn is a gorgeous, 2-year-old German Shepherd mix. Her leash manners are impeccable, making her a joy to walk. She walks well with a pack of dogs when they go for their daily walks. In play groups, she was calm and comfortable with other dogs, explored the yard and checked in with her humans. She is extremely intelligent, a great student and already knows commands such as sit, come, down and give paw. Because of her cleverness and smarts, she requires a levelheaded, skilled owner who will continue with training and teaching her rules and boundaries. She is highly treat-motivated which makes her a delight to train. Stormie is always focused on her handler, is affectionate and loving to her handler, but can be cautious when people she doesn't know approach her. She needs an owner who will know how to properly introduce her to new people and who will help her to learn new greeting skills. She loves to learn and is so proud of herself at the end of a training session! This good girl is a shining star - a gem just waiting to light up your life!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
