My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 04/19/2010: Yoo-hoo! Finley here. Can't you see that I'm all fixed up and ready to go? I'm soooo handsome and loving and playful. Foster mommy says I am just the most perfect pup! Did she tell you I'm housetrained too? Well, I'm waiting for you and singing that Michael Buble song..... "I just haven't met you yet!" so come and find me already! Lots of yorkie licks and wags! xoxo - Finley

UPDATED BIO 03/16/2010: Finley is a sweet 3 year old 10 lb boy who has overcome the neglect he experiences when he first came into rescue and has blossomed into the most GORGEOUS boy ever!!! If you recall, Finley was dirty and the matting was so severe that hair was literally stuck to his eyes, causing painful ulcers. All that has changed. His eyes are better. He is a happy boy finally!

Finley has learned a new trick - find the treat under the cup. Foster Mom plays this game with him to help stimulate his brain so he stays alert and active. (Isn't his Foster Mommy great!?) He has been taking care of his FM's other dog that is blind so we know Finley gets along with other dogs. He has been visiting the neighbor who has a cat and he will sniff but not bark or chase unless the cat whacks him. Then he is on it! :) (But we think he would tolerate a friendly cat.) His furry little face is adorable and his eyes are clear and bright. Please consider giving Finley his "Happily Ever After" with you!

UPDATED BIO 02/28/2010: Finley here! Boy oh boy do I feel great! I had a little growth on my booty that's been removed. UYR had the Dogtor send it out to make sure it wasn't anything bad... and it was benign (That's a good thing!). Also, I had a small cyst removed from my gums and had my toofers cleaned too! Now I can show off my pearly whites!
Well, as you can see my hair is growing in sooooo beautifully! I told 'ya I was going to be so handsome. If you think I'm cute now, just wait! I love to play fetch and love everypuppy. Cats aren't a huge issue unless they hiss and run from me. I am potty trained and love love love to go for walks. I'd love a fun, active household with a fur brother or sister around my size/age. Know anyone like that? Could it be you? I'd be FURever grateful :) xoxo Finley

UPDATED BIO 02/01/2010: Finley here! I'm 3-4 years old and weigh 9.7 lbs. Boy oh boy do I feel better! I received some medication for my eyes that my Dogtor thinks will help with the inflammation from having my fur stuck to my eyes for so long. My FM thinks there's been improvement. She says I'm a love muffin and a joy to have around. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to play fetch and get along with other dogs. I don't mind cats unless they're gonna hiss and run away from me. Then, it's chase-the-kitty time!!!!

The Dogtor says that bump on my rear is an adenoma, a benign mass. They're going to remove it when I have my dental in two weeks. The reason I have to wait 2 weeks is because I am getting over a case of kennel cough I picked up at the high-kill shelter where UYR found me. My fur is growing in nicely (but of course so slowly), and I can't wait to find a new mommy and/or daddy who sees the beautiful swan I am going to become. Please consider giving me a FURever home where I will never be neglected or have matted fur stuck to my eyes again! Thank you! Love, Finley. xxxooo

ORIGINAL BIO 01/08/2010: My name is Finley. Look at my face, and you will see the face of neglect. I am only 3 1/2 years old and 10 lbs but my short life has been a hard one. Today it was scheduled such that I would never become four years old. It was the day I was to be PTS. When you see my picture, you might understand why. See, I don't look like other yorkies you see. When I was brought to the shelter as a stray, my long hair was literally stuck to my eyes. I couldn't see in front of me, and it was difficult to walk. The shelter sedated me and shaved my face so that I could see. My young eyes look like those of an older dog, but when you listen to my strong heart and lungs and see my young teeth, you can see that I am not very old at all. Even though I was a stray, I didn't get to be like this overnight. Somebody just didn't love me enough.

It's been very cold in South Florida, and especially at the mainly-outdoor shelter at which I lived for the past 6 days and nights. I lived in that cold steel cage and came out once a day so that they could clean up all my messes from the day before. It was very sad to be all alone there. When FM came to see me yesterday, she was my first vistor. I was wearing a little red sweater and got up from my nap and went to greet her through the cage doors with a kiss. When she left to go home, I had no idea that she went to the front desk to let them know that I was going to be a UYR foster dog and find my FURever home. I braved another cold night alone until she was allowed to pick me up.

Boy was I happy to be outta there! She slipped my harness on and I led her all the way out of the shelter. I hopped in the car and was on my way home! So far, FM is still getting to know me, but she says I am a sweetheart. She shaved me down today and clipped my VERY overgrown nails. She also took me to the vet where they said I have old corneal scarring presumably from chronic neglect and hair getting stuck to my eyes because nobody groomed me. I also have what looks like an infected anal gland. I will be getting bloodwork done ASAP so that I can have a dental and get that looked at. I get antsy and run to the door when I need to go potty. I love to chase toys, and I like other dogs. FM says I should lose a pound or two to be at a healthier weight. (my pudge kept me warm at the shelter though!)

Do you think you could be the family who will someday send happy tails pictures of my when I'm beautiful as a Yorkie should be??
