My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chip is a young adult terrier mix, that has found himself in need of a new home. You see, he came to SPCHS when he was just a pup, was adopted quickly. Now, a little over 2 and a half years later, his adopters are both working, he's stuck in a their backyard 10-12 hours each workday and his pet parents don't feel that's fair to him. The reason he is stuck outside is because he's decided that it's fun to terrorize the family's cats when no one is looking, so he can not be left alone in the house with them. He also learned how to scale their 6-foot privacy fence -- they've been able to eliminate his escapes by installing an invisible fence wire at the top of their privacy fence. This keeps him contained, but with it getting colder outside -- well it's not the best for him, and he's definitely lonely! The good news is that he can be left alone in the house IF THERE ARE NO CATS. He doesn't destroy woodwork or furniture, and is a perfect gentleman.

Chip is a little under 3 years old, neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on shots. He is high energy when outdoors, but inside is pretty relaxed. Chip is great around children -- however, he might be a bit too energetic to be with children under 3 or 4. He's very athletic and would do well with an active family in which someone will be home most of the time to supervise and play with him when he's outdoors. He is also a big time snuggler who wants to be as close to you as he can be -- ALL THE TIME. He’s very sweet and sensitive, and he’s definitely at his best when he has someone he loves with him. Let him sit with you on the couch or bed and he’s in heaven.

He’s good on a leash and is crate trained. Chip needs his time outside and loves to run and play with other dogs, toys and best of all - interactive play with humans. Chip is very smart, sweet, affectionate, well behaved, fun, and happy boy. He loves to be involved in anything that we are doing. His happy place is sitting right beside you. He loves outdoor activities and being able to run full speed. He’s just a great dog -- he's not a barker or whiner.

The application process....

After you complete an application, there are several things that we will do:

1. We will check your personal references. Please be sure to list two personal references and include a phone number and an email address. (form asks for one; but I like two)
2. If you do not own your place of residence, we will call your landlord or leasing office. Please check with them first to learn about their pet policy.
3. We will call your veterinarian for a reference. We are looking for a history of annual exams, vaccines maintained routinely, annual heartworm tests and monthly preventatives. We require the following:

* All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered.
* If your pet is not up to date on vaccines, please do not submit the application until you have scheduled an appointment with the vet to get your pets current on their vaccines.

4. If you are a 1st-time pet owner, please include the name and phone number of the veterinarian you plan to use.
5. Be sure to call your Vet(s), giving them permission to speak with us.
6. We may need to do a home visit prior to approving your application, or post-adoption.

If these policies and practices are not acceptable, please do not apply.
