Please Help Me!!!
My name is Majik. I am an 18 year old Blue and Gold Macaw with a deformed leg that's causing me alot of pain. The folks here at Fine Feathered Friends Sanctuary brought me to the UW Vet School to find out if anything can be done to help me. The Vet told them it could have been corrected when I was a baby, but since it wasn't, my prognosis is not good.

The bones in my hip are deteriorating, causing my leg to turn outward. As time goes on, more bone deterioration occurs and eventually there won't be a socket left for my leg to rest in. If I were a human, cat or dog, I would have been a good candidate for a hip replacement surgery, but that cannot be done on birds at this time. I was also told that I am not a good candidate for amputation because of my size.

I am currently being treated, long term, for a bone marrow infection. The Vet is hoping that clearing up the infection will help with the pain and slow the deterioration down.
