Hatch Date: Unknown
Jake (darker face, confirmed male) and Maggie (lighter face, confirmed female) are bonded pair of Fischer's Lovebirds.
They came to For the Love of Birds from a hoarding/neglect case. As such their age and most of their history are unknown. It appears that they are siblings and are extremely bonded and will be adopted together.
Since in our care, they have enjoyed a clean, adequately sized home filled with a variety of perches, toys, and food and offered fresh chop. They are loving their different textured perches and playing with toys - especially ones that shred. They play ALL DAY, sometimes leading to a happy mess so daily housekeeping is a must from their forever home.
Maggie has laid eggs in the past; Their forever home must take very great care to discourage any egg-laying behavior as it is very dangerous to her health to continue doing so. As Jake and Maggie are most likely siblings it is even more important to discourage egg-laying.
They are not hand tame however have been getting to know their foster mom and are not frightened of her. Jake takes the role of big brother very seriously and is usually more social. As they are growing more confident they love coming out of their enclosure and flying around. They often visit their similar-sized bird housemates and seem to enjoy their company. Maggie goes bonkers for toys! She is constantly playing, shredding, and enjoying the enrichment.
Jake and Maggie have been disease tested negative for PBFD and Chlamydia and will be adopted with their cage and food to get their forever home started.
Jake and Maggie are being fostered in Parsippany NJ and will only be adopted to a forever home within easy driving distance. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated private foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA, we do not have a central location. As our adoptable birds are living in our volunteers' homes, only approved applicants are allowed to visit. If you are interested in meeting Jake and Maggie please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org to read our adoption policies and to complete an adoption application at ftlob.rescuegroups.org
