Russ earned the name 'Ruff Russ' after being found as stray with cuts around his face and back, as well as the pads on most of his paws peeled off causing him not to be able to walk. He has since healed and in clean bill of health. He is overall a typical boisterous and energetic bull terrier, but is generally very mellow and relaxed inside or in kennel. He is extremely friendly and receptive once he has warmed up to people, but often gets insecure when new people try to interact with him before he is comfortable. Once he has gained your trust he allows handling, pets, and (his favorite) belly rubs. He has been tested with dogs and done very well with select dogs that are also friendly, being a bull terrier he can get 'amped up' during playtime so would be best matched with an older dog or one that is not as high energy during play. Potential adopters must have bull terrier experience, be aware that they will need to advocate for Russ with strangers. He has been assisted by our training staff and would do well with continued training to assist with his nervousness when being confronted by stranger. He enjoys people but gets concerned when they get into his comfort zone and try to interact with him before he has gained their trust.

ADOPTION POLICY
The adoption process at OC Shelter Pets is relatively simple. We require an application and a home visit by one of our dedicated OC Shelter Pets volunteers. Once your application and home visit is reviewed by our Board, you will be notified in writing of our decision.
REVIEW OF APPLICATION
The team at OC Shelter Pets reviews all adoption and foster applications and if approved will notify you and reach out to you over the phone to discuss potential dogs that will fit the needs of your home as well as our adoption fees. Please note that all adoption fees go towards the care of our rescued animals, all animals are spayed/neutered prior to being adopted and current on all vaccines.
HOME VISIT
We need all family members available for the home visit for any potential adopters or fosters. This gives us a chance to talk about rescue, learn about your lifestyle and your expectations for your rescued animal. If you have existing pets, this gives us an opportunity to meet them as well. We will also check the home to ensure it is safe for the animal, we will check the backyard area, gates, fences and screen doors (if applicable).
THE PERFECT FIT
Upon approval, we will start reaching out to our foster homes and describe your situation and what dog we believe will best fit your home. We will also look within the dogs at OC Shelter Pets Headquarters and determine who best fits your home dynamics. We will then coordinate a time for you to meet the dog. Please be patient as this is an "adoption process" and we want to ensure that our dogs are successful in their forever homes.
ADOPTION AGREEMENT
OC Shelter Pets will take back any animal that is adopted out, per the adoption agreement - the animal will automatically be taken back into rescue and the adopter will be in violation of the agreement if the animal is taken to a shelter or given away.
