My story

Topanga von Topstedt is a beautiful, 1-2 year-old Shepherd mix. This sandy-coated girl with the fluffy tail is always ready to go. Her biggest wish is an active family who won’t leave her behind. Topanga has blossomed in a busy foster home and in the company of another playful dog. She’s young with the energy level to match. Walks with you are her joy. She minds her leash and is always eager to go one more block. Topanga is very playful in the home. She enjoys playing fetch and being around her people, especially kids. If something fun is going on, Topanga wants to be in the middle of it. She is a loving girl; she enjoys giving kisses and getting cuddles. She gets along best with dogs her size and tolerant cats. Her foster family reports that she’s crate-trained and housebroken. She prefers company while in the yard and engages well with her people. For that reason, she would benefit from a good training routine to help her build confidence and focus as she continues to grow. If lovely Topanga seems like the right girl for your home, fill out the application linked below.

Topanga von Topstedt is in a foster home, offsite, and is NOT at our rescue location in Los Angeles.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

In order to adopt any dog from Westside German Shepherd Rescue, one must fill out an adoption application first. Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip and up to date vaccinations. COVID-19 UPDATE: ADOPTION DAYS ******* Pre-approved applicants only ******* If you have submitted an on-line application but have not been approved by our volunteer, please do NOT come down to meet dogs as we won't be able to show you any. No on-site screening at this time. Once approved and told to come meet dogs, we will be happy to help you.
