TRAINING IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL DOGS AND THEIR OWNERS
When a new dog is adopted, occasionally behavioral issues can arise. We've found most issues can usually be avoided with basic training and patience. In addition, these dogs can benefit from basic manners and socialization skills in order to increase the chances for a successful and permanent adoption.
We usually recommend group training classes (usually 6) such as those offered by Doozy Dog, Petco, PetSmart, South Bark and personal trainers.
[We do NOT recommend bootcamp style training facilities, ***please get several references*** before you leave your new dog at any facility where you are not present. The county or the State of California does NOT license these facilities and many of them have bad reputations for mistreatment of dogs. We found out the hard way, and there is nothing that can be done if something goes wrong.]
Would you be willing to enroll your new family member in training and participate with him/her?
Exercise is an important part of a dog’s emotional and physical health, especially for puppies who have so much extra energy.
What kind of exercise plan do you have for your new family member?
Are you prepared to financially care for your new pup?
Costs may include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, training, flea treatments, food, grooming, and veterinary visits. We recommend pet insurance. (PetSmart has Banniff, a very thorough care plan available for a reasonable cost.)
