My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*courtesy post* Kona is 5 years old and is a bit hearty at 70 pounds. She'd do well to lose a couple pounds, and luckily, she loves to go on walks and play! She is an active pup, but not overly so. She enjoys going on walks, hikes, and playing in water. She doesn't mind going camping either! However, if you'd prefer to stay home, Kona is right there with you. She'd be equally as happy to play in a yard with some doggy toys. She would love to lay on the couch with you, or stay by your feet if you're working from home or relaxing. She adores belly scratches too! She'd love to sleep in your bed at night, right next to you if possible, or simply being in the same room will make her happy. Kona LOVES people and hasn't met a person she doesn't love. She is very friendly with humans! She knows how to use a dog door, and while she prefers to be inside while her family is home, she will pop outdoors during the day to sunbathe. Kona was found as a stray ~6 month old puppy. She has lived happily and healthily with her mom, dad, and canine sister, but as time went on, Kona and her sister haven't gotten along well. Her parents, for the safety of both dogs, have heartbreakingly decided to find a more suitable home for Kona where she can be the only dog in her household. She is loved very much and will make an excellent companion as a solo-dog. Kona is a very good dog: sweet, well-mannered, house-trained, affectionate. She simply requires a home where she can be the only canine light of your life and receive all of the love! Her adoption fee is $295. As a courtesy posting, much of the procedures we would usually provide have already been taken care of by the owner(s) relinquishing. Thus, this dog's adoption fee will generate a small surplus to assist in subsidizing the veterinary bills of other dogs in our care who require more in terms of what an average adoption fee would cover (i.e. broken legs, lump biopsies and removal, dental, teeth extractions, senior dog blood tests, professional grooming, etc).

If this listing is still posted, we are still accepting applications. We do not do out-of-state adoptions. We do not hold dogs, please submit your application when you are ready to adopt.

If you are interested in meeting any Poochmatch dog, please visit our website to complete an adoption application. It is in the ADOPTION folder at the top of our home page. Just fill in the blanks and SEND.
We commonly receive multiple applications for a single dog. Nevertheless, only one applicant will be invited to meet a dog on Saturday at Petsmart in Yorba Linda between noon and 3 pm OR on a mutually agreeable day, time and place during the week.

All adoption fees cover the mandatory and non-negotiable spay/neuter, rabies, microchip, microchip registration, full sets of core vaccinations (rabies and 1 set of distemper/parvo for adults, 4 for puppies) and deworming. Adoption fees vary based on age, breed, size and the costs incurred on the dog's behalf by us i.e. medical, behavioral training, etc.

Meet the Pet

Generally speaking, meetings are by appointment only on a mutually agreeable appointment day, time and place.

Additional adoption info

We do not have a facility. Our dogs are in foster homes with volunteers.

We do not do out-of-state adoptions for puppies. We would only consider out-of-state adoptions for adult dogs that prove hard-to-place locally. We do not hold dogs, please submit your application when you are ready to adopt.

All prospective adopters must COMPLETE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION. Upon receipt AND approval (usually within 72 hours), a mutually agreeable appointment date, time and place will be scheduled. Prospective adopters must be receptive to a home check, sign an adoption contract and provide an adoption fee.

All adoption fees cover the mandatory and non-negotiable spay/neuter, rabies, microchip, microchip registration, full sets of core vaccinations (rabies and 1 set of distemper/parvo for adults, 4 for puppies) and deworming. Adoption fees vary based on age, breed, size and the costs incurred on the dog's behalf by us i.e. medical, behavioral training, etc. and they range from $295 - $495.

All of our dogs are vetted prior to becoming adoptable - although not everything is always revealed in the initial health check. We do request that if one of our dogs becomes ill shortly after being adopted that their adopter contacts us ASAP so that we can assist them.

More about this rescue

I became involved in animal rescue because of the overwhelming number of stray animals I observe in less affluent areas of Southern California. We vet all of the dogs found as strays, provide rehabilitation, socialization and training - 500 a year! We march to the beat of a fast drummer and take great pride in the dedication of those who work together to place these precious dogs in the right home, not just any home.
Poochmatch is a small rescue group with half-a dozen volunteers. Since our founding in 2006, we have done over 3,700 dog adoptions. With over 500 in 2018 alone.

We do not have a secretary - we are completely volunteer-based and so we respond to emails, calls and voicemails as quickly as possible. We'd love to have more assistance. We need help administratively from individuals with computers, digital cameras and marketing skills. We also need volunteers for our Saturday events, individuals 18 years or older, to help walk our dogs, maintain clean crates and provide them with fresh water for them. Please note we do not accept volunteers who treat our events as a hang-out and are generally distracted while tending the dogs - that is a disaster waiting to happen. We also do not accept volunteers who treat the event as a petting zoo and "hog" dogs. While we do appreciate and encourage that our volunteers interact with our dogs it is our one day a week to find them a forever home and we also want potential adopters to be able to interact with them. If you are interested in adopting, please send us an email at poochmatch@hotmail.com to make sure that we will be holding an event on the Saturday you are interested in volunteering. We could really use dedicated volunteers too! Please see http://poochmatch.com/volunteer.html for more information.
