My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Henry von Hemsloh is an adorable, smaller-sized, 6-7 year-old Shepherd mix. Henry is super sweet and endearing, and we think he will do well in many homes. He is friendly with everyone he meets and does great on walks around the rescue. Possibly housebroken, this sweet boy will obediently listen to your commands and take treats gently from your hand. He meets other dogs nicely on leash, and does well in playgroups, politely greeting other dogs, tho he's not a fan of pushy ones. He is the perfect size (around 50 pounds) to relax by your couch as you watch TV. Henry only asks that you give him a chance and he will be loyally by your side for the rest of his life. Henry looks forward to your visit!

Henry von Hemsloh is in a foster home, offsite, and is NOT at our rescue location in Los Angeles.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
