My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Libby, who is an absolute sweetheart and has been a true blessing to foster! She’s a 1-year-old Heeler mix around 40 lbs who’s great with other dogs, good with cats (well, she prefers to avoid them…lol), and has no major behavior issues that have been observed in the three weeks she’s been with us. She can be a bundle of energy at times, but she also has no trouble switching into calm mode…when it’s time for me (foster mom) to work, she crawls right under my desk and falls asleep at my feet. 💤

Libby loves:

🐕 Being near her humans. She’s a true “velcro dog” and loves to follow her person around all day. She’d definitely do best in a home with at least one person who works from home or is home most of the time.

🐕 Playing with other dogs. She can play with our 1-year-old dog for hours at a time! She’d thrive in a home with another energetic, playful pup.

🐕 Playing fetch. Oh boy, does she love a game of fetch! Her future family will want to invest in a Chuckit! stick for sure.

🐕 Running. This girl is an amazing athlete…she’s super fast and agile (she leaves our dogs in the dust). In fact, she’d be a great candidate for dog agility. She enjoys going on runs and hikes with her humans and would definitely do best with an active family.

🐕 Belly rubs. Libby loves to snuggle up and roll over for belly rubs. You won’t be able to resist those big brown eyes!

Libby is working on:

🐕 Her commands. She didn’t seem to know any commands when she arrived a few weeks ago, but she quickly picked up “sit” and “stay.” She’s not perfect with either yet, but she’s getting there. We’re still working on “leave it,” “off,” and “come.” Due to her velcro nature, she’s pretty good about coming when called…her challenge is staying in a “sit” until being asked to “come.” Lol.

🐕 Not jumping on people. As mentioned above, the “off” command is still a work in progress. 😉 She has bursts of energy where she gets so excited that she jumps on whomever is near. Due to this, she would do best in a home with older dog-savvy children.

🐕 Being crated. Libby does have some anxiety, most likely in part due to being passed around to multiple families and spending a month in a shelter before ASF was able to pull her. We’ve been working on getting her comfortable in a crate, and she’s spent hours at a time in it when we’re out of the house and has been fine after she settles down. However, she has not been sleeping in a crate at our home; she’s quite comfortable sleeping in the humans’ bed. 🙂 So if you’re okay with her snuggling up with you in bed, crating won’t be so much of an issue.

This sweet, joyful, love bug will quickly steal your heart! ❤️ She still has some things she needs to work on, but she’s impressively well-adjusted given the rough start she had in life.

Libby is currently being fostered in Fredericksburg, VA. If she seems like a good fit for you, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application
