My story

Meet Joe!  Joe came to Chi Town Rescue surrendered by her owner along with her sisters Rose and Bitsy.  It was a hoarding situation and the second time the owner surrendered dogs to the rescue.  All three dogs are shy and evasive and fearful of being handled by people.  They are good with the other dogs at the rescue, however, Rose can be the dominant dog in the group.  Ideally, all three dogs would love to stay together but in particular, Rose and Joe.  Joe really looks to Rose for guidance and follows her everywhere.  They will not come to you for pets and if they are approached they will walk away from you.  However, if you have hot dogs, they will stand on their hind legs and show off to get a treat. They love to go out to the play yard and lay in the sun.  When they run out to the yard, they love to bark the entire way.  You will definitely know when they are around.  They would do better in a home with no small children.  (In order from left to right is Joe - neutered male approximately 1.5 years old, Bitsy - spayed female approximately 3 years old and Rose - spayed female approximately 3.5 years old).

Joe, Rose or Bitsy needs a home that will be calm and secure so they can't escape and have owners that are knowledgeable in handling of fearful dogs.  Owners willing to work in socializing them with people as well as giving the time it will take.  Any potential adopter must be realistic in expectations and dedicated to allowing whatever time it will take, whether it be months or years as well as accept they may never display trust another typical dog may.

If you are an adopter that can give any of these dogs the time to work with them, then please contact Chi Town Rescue to make an appointment to meet them.

More about this rescue

"Chi Town" is short for "Chihuahua Town," which is our nick-name because we found that the majority of animals we were rescuing happened to be Chihuahuas and literally have a little “town” comprised of Chihuahuas! Chihuahuas are one of the most over-bred dogs in Arizona and unfortunately many end up in need of rescue. However, we are not limited to saving just Chihuahas, we do save other breeds dependent on availability of space. Chi Town also specializes in rescuing dogs who require a little extra TLC and are at risk of euthanasia at county shelters. These dogs may not be doing well for a variety of reasons- fear, fear aggression, anxiety, or a medical issue to name a few. These are the dogs that typically have no other outlet and for which time is of the essence . After our dogs are medically cleared and/or their behavioral issues have improved, they are available for adoption.

Please be aware that we do our very best to answer all questions in a timely manner.

We are always seeking to help promote these special Chihuahuas who are too often overlooked in AZ shelters due to the sheer volume of this breed. Please share and like us on Facebook:
