My story

Please meet our sweet guy Edison. Edison was found in a remote area of Butte County. He was found with a female dog that appeared to be his sibling. She has since moved to another foster home because she was pregnant. Edison has a scar that goes around his neck. We do not know the source, but have seen similar scaring on dogs that have rope or collars too tight around the neck. It is fully healed.

Edison is extremely shy. He will be the most shy dog you will ever meet, we guarantee it! Edison defaults to pancaking and acting invisible. We know that it will take a special family to foster or adopt Edison. Is that you? We will work with a household that is a good fit for him. This may include training.

In the time we have had him, Edison has shown improvement. Edison lets us pet him and sometimes cuddles. Then sometimes he runs and hides under the bed. We have been working to normalize household sounds. He follows direction and is excellent on a leash. Patience, consistency and time will be the key to his confidence and trust.

Edison is maybe two years old. He is crate and potty trained. He LOVES the company of other dogs. We think that a home with another dog would be good for Edison. We have not cat tested him. With his shy nature, we do not recommend a home with kids -- it would be too much for him to handle.

Ideally, we would like to find a home that is in Glenn, Butte, or Tehama County as we would like to be available to assist with his adjustment into a home. We are open further away for the right fit.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fees range between $50 and $150, depending on the age and size of the dog. Spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, flea treatment, dewormer, and microchip are all included. Prospective adopters must agree to a home visit, have secure fencing and allow their dog to sleep inside at night. Those coming from out of town may submit a vet reference in place of a home visit. All renters need landlord approval. If you already have a dog or two, they must be spayed/neutered and brought to the shelter for a meet and greet. Homes that already have more than two dogs, or any unaltered dogs, will not be considered. Exceptions to these rules may be made in special circumstances. If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please: CALL (530) 824-1985 OR APPLY ONLINE: https://www.secondchancepetrescue.org/adopt/
