Fostered in Georgia

Izzy is a 6 year old Black and Tan female GSD.

Meet Izzy
Izzy came into the rescue as a puppy and was adopted out to a family in the Carolinas, who ended up surrendering her to a pound. CVRS worked to get her back from the pound and the rescue has had her ever since. Izzy was surrendered by her previous owners because she has a disorder called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) as well as storm anxiety and it was too much for the family to handle.

EPI is the inability of the pancreas to produce sufficient enzymes to properly digest foods. This difficulty in digestion often leads to weight loss due to a lack in nutrients, even if the dog is eating a normal amount of food. The main treatment for EPI is to supplement enzymes in the dog's food which will do the digesting for them. The enzymes/supplements are very easy to mix into her food and average an extra $2.05 per day or $63.55 per month on top of regular food cost.

Although Izzy has EPI and storm anxiety, she still is a great companion and such a sweetheart with a big personality and even bigger heart. She is extremely smart and quick to pick up new tricks. She loves going on long walks as well as being a couch potato. Izzy wins the hearts of everyone she meets with her sweet eyes and loving demeanor. She is very loyal to her owners and will greet you by wagging her tail and bringing you her favorite giraffe toy. She would, however, be best in an only animal household because she is too interested in cats and most dogs. Due to Izzy’s EPI and strong personality, the rescue does require a full family meet and greet as well as a two week trial period in any home she joins.

If you would like to adopt/foster Izzy email us at info@colbertvetrescue.org, or if you would like to donate to her medical care our Venmo is @colbert-vetrescue
