Introducing Sonny & Cher, bonded brother & sister. These two puppies are full of love and life. They will make your heart sing with joy.

On Nov 6, 2021 these two tiny Chihuahua puppies were found outside, huddled together in the cold weather in Mesquite TX. The outside temperature was about 45 degrees and they probably would not have survived the night. Thankfully, they were discovered by a Good Samaritan and taken in for the evening. She went door to door, posted on Nextdoor and Facebook without finding the owners. Mesquite Animal Shelter was also contacted. She had larger dogs and reached out to CRT for help. On Nov 7th foster volunteers drove to Mesquite where they were surrendered to CRT. CRT stayed in touch with the Mesquite Animal Shelter and also conducted an exhaustive search on social media in an attempted to find their owners.

On Nov 8th, CRT’s Vet examined them and estimated their age to be about 6 weeks old. They both weighed approximately two pounds. Our vet noted that because they had such long nails and were underweight, they probably had never seen a vet and had likely been abandoned. Sonny and Cher received their first of three puppy shots while CRT continued to try and find their owners. Ultimately, Sonny & Cher were taken into our CRT program and have continued their vet work and growth in a safe foster home.

Sonny and Cher have really blossomed in their foster home. Their energy is infectious and they are inseparable. It’s truly hard to look at them and not smile! If they’re awake, they’re playing with each other. After their bellies are full, they enjoy a spirited sparring session over the ownership of each squeaky toy. Sonny steals the toys and Cher protests! Safe to say they approach every activity with extreme enthusiasm. Cher is a Diva (one might even call her bossy), while big brother Sonny is her protector. Their not so serious disagreements are really cute, and they actually complement each other quite well. In the foster home they run, wrestle and tackle each other. This is why we know they would really enjoy a backyard. When fetching toys, they almost bring them back! During the day a favorite pass time is sitting on your lap while munching on a delicious bully stick. Say their names, and you’ll see a cute tail wagging puppy perp walk, signaling they want to be held. These siblings take cuteness to the next level!

These puppies are currently about 4 months old (in January). Sonny is about 3.9 pounds and Cher is about 2.7 pounds. They are both still growing, but will be smaller dogs (around 5 pounds when fully grown). Sonny has a beautiful soft Chestnut coat, while Cher’s is a “tiger-striped” Brindle pattern. Sonny looks like he’s wearing white socks and Cher’s wearing white slippers. These tiny young puppies cannot be left alone for more than 4-6 hours, so homes where the family is away for extended periods of time won’t be considered. Currently they are potty trained on an Artificial Grass Puppy Pad. At night, they sleep in a doggy pen with a big bed and lots of soft blankets to wrestle on. There are no children in their foster home, but we believe they would be great with older, mature children 10 and older. Sonny and Cher would be lost without each other, so we’re looking for a family to adopt them together.

It’s heart breaking to know these two frightened, hungry puppies were abandoned at an extremely vulnerable age. We are determined to give them the future they deserve. If you’re looking for a lifetime of love and an unlimited number of kisses, look no further! Sonny and Cher’s story is just beginning!

Sonny and Cher are being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Sonny and Cher are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. Vet work has just been completed and they are now ready for adoption.

These dogs are a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $700 adoption donation for the pair is required ($350.00 for each puppy).

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
