My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Apply to adopt the beautiful Spiegel at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

It is so hard to believe that a puppy would be in need of rescue. Puppies are so innocent, so lovable, and so new to this world. Unfortunately, way more puppies end up in need than one can imagine. Spiegel is no exception. Her and her brother Starke were seized by the sheriff, we do not know the exact reason but we know that they needed out of the situation they were in. They ended up in the shelter, which is no place for a puppy. Thankfully, a shelter volunteer reached out to us about these two adorable pups that needed placement. It wasn't long after that one of our amazing fosters stepped up, and we gained two new family members! <3

Spiegel is a 4-5-month-old, 45lb female German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix. So far Spiegel has only met immediate family, however, she is very excited to say hello and runs to greet them. At times, when she is overly excited to eat dinner or is super excited she may jump up on people. Her fosters are working on her staying on all fours and she is getting better. She has not been to any public outings yet due to her age. Her foster has been working with her on her leash training. She has gone on walks in the backyard and is doing great. Spiegel has the potential to be a dog that goes on hikes with her family. She may need some encouragement but is starting to strike out more on her own. Spiegel has not been on many car rides, but the few she was on she rode really well.

Spiegel is on the active side but also loves to cuddle up with you. One day she may play fetch but right now she just likes to run after toys. She would rather play with her foster siblings. It is still to be determined if Spiegel is a water dog or not, but she did great with her first bath! Spiegel is a big toy lover! She loves stuffed toys, nylabones, and hard rubber-type toys.

Spiegel likes her stuffed toys, chew rubber toys, and nylabones. If she tries to chew on something other than what is okay, she does well with redirection. She is not quite ready to have free-roam of the house when no one is home yet as she is still a puppy with curiosity. Spiegel is potty trained and kennel trained. As far as an apartment setting goes, we think she would do best with a big space for movement and running around. If that can be provided throughout the day and early evening then she would probably settle in for the evening in an open apartment setting. Spiegel is not a big barker. She hears the noise and responds to it in actions, but barking is only like one brief bark after her brother has started voicing announcements.

Spiegel does wonderful with other dogs. She is very playful with other dogs, no matter the size. She was slower to warm up to the larger dogs but after a few days was initiating play with them. We think she would do okay as an only dog, but also loves her brother and foster siblings she has here. As far as we know, she has always had another dog around her so it may be a big adjustment if her new family did not have another dog living in the home. Spiegel is not being fostered around any cats or kids so we are unsure how she would do with them. She is young enough though that she should be fine with proper introduction.

Speigel's ideal home would be one where she could be active but also where she can be loved and cuddled with a lot. She would be good with or without another dog in the house, as long as her new family is active and can help burn off her playfulness. There are no kids in the household, but we believe she would be good with them, as long as they remember she is still a puppy, a big one, but still a puppy.

Speigel is active BUT loves to be petted and loved on too. She would like to crawl up in your lap and lounge on you, especially winding down from being outside and playing. She likes dog beds, people beds, the furniture, or the floor and is starting to sleep more, when not crated at night, spread eagle with her belly exposed for loving. She is very smart, a quick learner, and wants to please you. She likes to eat Crushed Ice!!!! And loves her mealtime but she is a slow eater and might take a break in between bites. She loves seeing herself in the mirror, thus her German name of Spiegel (mirror). Such a loving baby that has had a hard start to her life and would be a joy to have in your home and give you much love for years to come!

Spiegel is being fostered in Oklahoma City, OK. We do adopt out of state, but adopters are responsible for picking their new family member up. Her adoption fee is $275 which includes two sets of puppy shots and wormings. She will also have had her bordetella and rabies. She will be micro-chipped, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.
