Milo was dumped at the Oakland Shelter by his family who lacked any experience in raising a young, larger dog entering adolescence. He really just needed some training and consistency. So we pulled him into a home with a foster family that knew what to do. He is still pretty young and will need to be in a forever home that can continue working on his training and sociability.
His foster family reports that Milo is doing pretty good with basic commands; he currently sleeps in a crate at night; leash skills are improving. There is no food guarding and he has learned to release a toy on command. He loves playing with dogs his size and would do better with a mature, active, playful dog in the home to show him the ropes. Although, physically he is as big as he will get, his brain is still in puppy mode - very active, somewhat compulsive. He will need lots of activities - walks, hiking, playing in a large backyard (with tall fence). He does very well in the car. He is housebroken in his current foster home.
We require any potential adopters of dogs over 30 lbs to own their home (no renters). You must have a good-sized, fenced-in backyard. We think Milo would be a good companion / playmate for another dog his size living in the home.
Please note that we do not adopt any of our dogs out to families with children under the age of 13.
