My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Melinda is a very reserved girl. She takes a lot of time to warm up and even then she can be very timid. She will need a home with someone willing to work with her to give her confidence, and will likely require obedience training help socialize her. Melinda is also very reactive to other dogs and should be the only dog in the home.

UPDATE October 2023: Melinda its in a good good foster home, but is officially a "Long Timer," having been waiting for her forever home, since January 2022. She's a super sweet dog and very well behaved. We hope you'll give her some consideration.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is a couple of steps.

We ask you to begin by filling out an adoption application to express your interest in any of our animals. Once we receive the application and looked it over, we will contact you to answer any questions you may have about the pet and set up a meet and greet with the 4 legged friend you are interested in.

At that point, if you are interested in moving forward with the adoption, we will conduct a home check to make sure everything's good. We will ask you to sign an adoption agreement and ask for a donation for the adoption process.

More about this rescue

The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation was founded by Nancy and Katherine Heigl to celebrate the memory of a wonderful son and brother. In 1986, Jason was killed in a car accident. He was only fifteen years old.

Throughout his brief lifetime Jason loved all animals, especially dogs and cats and monkeys. He lived his life extending compassion and kindness to all creatures great and small. This foundation is his legacy.

The mission of the JDHF is to eliminate the needless suffering inflicted on animals by human cruelty, indifference, and ignorance. Our primary focus is the greater Los Angeles area, for now.

In pursuit of our mission, the JDHF routinely funds:

Our internal rescue group, the Heigl Hounds of Hope.
Other qualified rescue groups, via Networking donations.
The Transport of LA shelter dogs to states with great demand.
Free Spay Neuter procedures for the pets of qualified caretakers.
Compassion Education programs.
And we thank you for your support.
