My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET JACKSON. He is a sweet male yorkie who is 11-1/2 years old and weighs a skinny 8-1/2 lbs. Jackson is being fostered in Riverview, FL. All dogs fostered in the state of Florida must be adopted within the State of Florida.
Jackson is looking for his forever retirement home so he can spend his golden years playing fetch with his squeaky toy. This sweet old man has goofy ears and is playful yet mellow. Jackson's previous owner was an elderly gentleman who went into a nursing home and could not take Jackson with him.

Jackson is potty trained and prefers going on walks versus being able to roam free in a fenced-in yard. Jackson does great with leash walking and must always be walked with a harness, not with a collar. He does not pull at all. His foster mom is working on getting him to put on some pounds. His ideal weight is 10 pounds. He does not bark unless someone rings the doorbell or if you aren't throwing his squeaky toy like he wants you to.

His foster mom thinks Jackson would do well in an apartment or a home where he gets frequent daily walks. Jackson loves people and other dogs. He also does well with older children. He is not a fan of chickens... at all. Jackson cooperates for bath time and doesn't seem to mind going potty outside in the rain.

As with old age, Jackson does have a few medical issues. From his previous vet records, he has evidence of a collapsing trachea as well as the beginning stages of bilateral cataracts. Due to his collapsed trachea, he must always be walked with a harness. Jackson is currently getting over-the-counter Lumenpro eye drops. Lumenpro also makes a food topper supplement that is more cost-friendly. These eye drops and supplements are not required, but do help slow down the progression of the cataracts by breaking up the protein. Besides the cataract appearance of his eyes, he does not seem to have any real vision issues at this time.

From Jackson's blood work, his liver and kidney values were slightly high from years of being on poor quality food. He will need to be on a low-protein renal wet food for the remainder of his life. This can be by prescription or from pet stores. He is currently eating Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Renal Support. His blood work supports that it appears to be in the early stage and will have many years left with proper diet and loving care. Jackson has a mouth full of teeth but prefers wet food versus dry food. His teeth look fine, but the vet does recommend a teeth cleaning in the next 4 or 5 months.

Jackson is full of love and snuggles. He prefers sitting next to you versus sitting in your lap. He is very go-with-the-flow. While most dogs like sleeping in their dog beds, Jackson is the opposite. He rarely lays in his dog bed. He prefers couches and beds. Can you say spoiled?! As long as you throw his squeaky toy for him, he is happy as can be. Can you love on this old fella and be his forever retirement home??
