My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for a loving, incredibly deeply bonding dog who likes all people and most dogs? He is urgently in need of getting new placement, either foster or even better adopt! He is crate trained, potty trained and knows basic commands. He walks well on the leash with the proper equipment. He does experience some separation anxiety so he should be crated when his people arent home. His heavy duty crate can possibly go with him to his new home, if you can help please message me! No kitties for this guy unfortunately, but he does great with chickens. We are willing to transfer to another rescue if one can help with him.

Canelo was abandoned by his owners when they moved and he ended up in a local shelter where he was considered "unadoptable" because of his extreme stress. But his sweet nature wasn't overlooked by our fosters, and he was rescued days before he was due to be euthanized. Away from the noisy and stressful kennel environment, he's much more relaxed and showing his happy, goofy personality.

At 85 lbs, he's not technically a lap dog, but don't tell Canelo that. He's surprisingly nimble, strong, loves to run and sprint in an open area, and actually skips on walks. He seems to love children, but we caution that a large, strong dog like this can easily knock over a small child unintentionally during play or excitement.

We estimate Canelo to be 3-4 years old. He walks well in a harness, knows the commands Sit, Down, and Off. His extreme food motivation makes him easy to train, and his off leash recall strong. His foster is currently working with him on sit/down/sit transitions and shake.

Come see this pup on Saturdays during adoption event hours. Please email us at or call WT&F's Dog Team voicemail 707-812-9030 to get a jump on the process, ask questions, and/or to confirm they will be there. Dog adoptions are held outside Napa Petco every Saturday - 1:00 pm to 4:00pm.

This dog comes spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and more with an adoption fee/donation to Whiskers, Tails and Ferals in Napa, CA. See more information at

More about this rescue

Whiskers, Tails and Ferals is a network of volunteers and foster families caring for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens who have been abandoned, are feral, or are facing the threat of being euthanized at an animal shelter.
All dogs and cats that come into our program are spayed or neutered. Felines are FeLV and possibly FIV, vaccinated, wormed (as needed) and micro-chipped.
All sick animals are immediately put under the care and supervision of a Napa veterinarian and Whiskers, Tails and Ferals pays for their medications.
The cats and kittens that are not able to be tamed, are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and returned to their colonies where colony guardians continue to feed and care for them.
