My story

HI THERE,MY NAME IS CONRAD BUT ALL MY FRIENDS CALL ME CONNIE. I'M USUALLY NOT MUCH OF A SOCIAL MEDIA GUY BUT FEBRUARY 2022 IS SIGNIFICANT FOR ME. YOU SEE, IT WAS JUST THIS TIME LAST YEAR THAT I WAS RESCUED. MY LIFE HAS NOT BEEN EASY AND I FOUND MYSELF OUT ON THE STREETS LAST WINTER, ALONE, COLD, VERY HUNGRY, STARVING ACTUALLY, AND SICK. I WAS TRYING SO HARD TO SURVIVE IT ALL BUT I GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I JUST DIDN'T THINK I COULD DO IT ANYMORE. I FOUND A STAIRCASE AND AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS THERE WAS A PORCH. I SAW THIS RUG ON THE PORCH AND THOUGHT, IF I CAN JUST GET UP THOSE STAIRS AND LAY ON THAT RUG, AND CURL UP CLOSE TO THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE, MAYBE I CAN GET WARM ENOUGH TO CLOSE MY EYES AND JUST GO TO SLEEP. SO I DID, BUT THEN, SOMETHING AMAZING HAPPENED. SOMEONE SAW ME THERE ON THE PORCH AND CALLED A BUNCH OF LOCAL RESCUES. AT FIRST IT WAS NO, NO , NO, SORRY WE'RE TOO BUSY, OR WE DON'T HAVE ROOM. BUT THEN THEY CALLED DUMPED STRAY ANIMAL RESCUE, THIS TINY RESCUE IN MIDDLETOWN, NY, AND THIS NICE LADY CAME AND GOT ME. SHE BROUGHT ME INSIDE, GAVE ME FOOD, GOT ME WARM AND GOT ME TO THE VET. THINGS STARTED LOOKING UP. IT WAS NOT AN EASY ROAD FOR ME, I AM FIV POSITIVE SO THAT MADE MY RECOVERY A LITTLE HARDER. LATER I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH DIABETES. I EAT A SPECIAL DIET AND GET INSULIN TWICE A DAY AND I AM DOING A-OKAY! I LIKE MY HOME HERE AT DUMPED STAY, BUT THERE ARE A COUPLE OF DRAWBACKS. FIRST BECAUSE I'M FIV POSITIVE, I'M NOT ALLOWED OUT OF MY CAGE WITH THE OTHER CATS, SO THERE'S THAT. AND BECAUSE I NEED INSULIN TWICE A DAY, SOMEONE HAS TO COME TO THE RESCUE VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING AND AGAIN AT NIGHT FOR ME, IN ADDITION TO COMING DURING THE DAY TO TAKE CARE OF ALL OF US. I TOLD YOU THIS RESCUE IS SMALL RIGHT? LESS THAN A DOZEN VOLUNTEERS TAKE CARE OF ALL OF US HERE AT THE SHELTER (USUALLY 12-14 OF US) THEN THE COLONIES, THE FOSTER CATS AND THE SANCTUARY CATS SO LIKE 200 CATS IN ALL, THAT'S A LOTTA CATS FOR 10 PEOPLE TO CARE FOR! NOW I KNOW I'M NOT THE MOST POPULAR GUY AT AN ADOPTION EVENT, I'M 6 YEARS OLD, FIV POSITIVE AND DIABETIC. BUT HERE'S THE THING, FIRST FIV IS REALLY NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL, I HAVE TO STAY INSIDE AND I SHOULD ONLY BE WITH OTHER FIV POSITIVE CATS, OR THE ONLY CAT IN THE HOME. MY SPECIAL DIET IS NON-PRESCRIPTION AND CAN BE EASILY PURCHASED AND MY INSULIN ONLY TAKES A MINUTE MORNING AND NIGHT. I'M REALLY USED TO IT SO IT'S NOT A PROBLEM. CATS LIKE ME, WE CAN BE A LITTLE TOUGH ON THE WALLET, SO WHAT MY RESCUE IS DOING, IS OFFERING FOR ME TO GO INTO A PERMANENT FOSTER SITUATION. THAT MEANS YOU GET ME, LOOK AT THE PICTURE, I AM ONE GORGEOUS HUNK OF MEOW! AND THE RESCUE WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE CARE OF MY VETERINARY CARE...WIN FOR THE RESCUE BECAUSE THEY GET TO PLACE ME IN A HOME, WIN FOR YOU BECAUSE, WELL, YOU GET ME AND WIN FOR ME BECAUSE I GET TO LIVE IN A HOUSE WHERE I CAN ROAM AROUND MORE FREELY. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED, I'M A GOOD GUY, I'M HAPPY, I PURR ALL THE TIME, REALLY, ALLLLL THE TIME AND LOUD! YOU WOULD TOO IF YOU HAD A COMEBACK STORY LIKE MINE. SO WHAT DO YOU SAY? GO TO THE WEBSITE DUMPEDSTRAYANIMALRESCUEINC.ORG AND FILL OUT A FOSTER APPLICATION. MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM ITS FOR CONNIE.

More about this rescue

Our organization was created to reduce the population of stray animals using trap-neuter-release, to provide medical, physical and emotional support to abandoned and stray animals, to make all attempts to safely re-home non-feral animals, provide a safe haven for feral cats, promote responsible pet ownership and provide humane education within the community. We are an all volunteer organization maintaining a small shelter, foster homes and a feral cat sanctuary.
