My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Diesel is a sweet boy who loves to cuddle. His 3 siblings all found amazing forever homes, but nothing has been the perfect fit for Diesel yet. Diesel is about 8 months old. He weighs about 38 pounds - a dense 38 pounds. His color is that of dark chocolate - it looks dark grey at night, and has brown, red colors in the sun.

Diesel likes to be next to his people. If you are on the couch, he will want to cuddle; He really likes to rest his head on an arm or a leg. If you leave - even for a moment - you will be greeting by a full-body tail wag and kisses. Diesel’s hobbies include pulling toys apart, fetch (but only 2 or 3 times), lounging in the sunlight, wrestling, playing chase, and (of course) cuddling.

Diesel lives in a house with 2 medium-sized dogs, but needs to be monitored because he plays rough. I would not recommend Diesel in a home with smaller dogs even though he is friendly. He gets daily socialization and exercise with other dogs in our area. His best friends are a Boxer mix, a Pit Bull, and a Golden. He does well with them because these dogs are okay with the way he uses his weight to pin his opponent. He plays hard, but will stop if the other dog cries. Diesel needs constant socialization and would love a large yard where he can run and play

Diesel is very well behaved. He has displayed no aggression of any kind: no food aggression, no aggression towards people, and no aggression towards other dogs. The exception is if another dog acts aggressive first, Diesel will not back down and needs to be removed from the situation. Diesel can be very vocal when he is excited. He does bark, but will quickly stop when his human stands between him and the exciting thing he is barking at. He has a strong hunting instinct and on one occasion he quickly stuck his head in a bush and came out with a mouse. I do not believe a house with cats would be a good fit for Diesel.

Diesel has been exposed to a few small children and has been friendly to them. My only concern with a younger child is the fact that Diesel will lay on top of you when he wants to cuddle. In the morning, he sometimes lays on our heads. He will also stand on top of you if he wants attention, or needs to go outside.

Diesel was rescued when he was about 12 weeks old, and has only been in a home that has showered him with love and affection. We may have spoiled him a little as well; he gets daily Greenies, carrots, and lots of toys. Diesel has the basic commands of “sit”, “lay down”, “touch”, “turn”, and “paw”. He is completely potty trained, but still needs to be taken out about every 4 hours during the day and 8 hours at night It has taken some time for him to walk on a leash without pulling. While he is better, we keep a gentle leader handy; there is no pulling when he wears the gentle leader.

Diesel is definitely a handsome boy. He has sweet eyes that sit on his large, wrinkled face. His turned down Shar Pei ears almost seem out of place on his serious guy look. Diesel does require grain free food (If not, he will have horrible gas and his fur falls out in patches.)

If you believe you are the special person who is willing to adore this special boy, please apply.
