My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mia is a courtesy post. If you are interested in her, please contact Cookie, 805-218-1577.

Mia is a 5 year old German Shepherd, she’s spayed, healthy and up-to-date with her shots. Her owner recently passed away and she’s looking for a forever home. Please see her story below.

The second photo was taken on 2/1/2017 on Mia’s first day home. Mia, along with her brother, mom and dad were surrendered to the West Valley Shelter just days before. Her life could have gone either way, but she managed to land herself an amazing, devoted dad who loved her to the moon and back.

Sadly, her world was was turned upside down because he passed away expectedly at a young age of 60 in November 2021.

Mia grew up to be a wonderful girl. She’s sweet and affectionate, and very social with people She knows her basic commands, walks great on the leash and loves to play ball in the backyard. But her favorite thing to do was to just hang out with Tony. She went everywhere with him and they were inseparable. That is until death took him away. It was sudden and unexpected.

Tony was a kind soul, he loved dogs so much that he even started a business making chicken jerky treats for them, and he’d often donate them to the West Valley Shelter. In memory of his love and legacy, his family asked that donations be sent to local German Shepherd rescue. Our heart hurts for our friend’s loss, but for the animals as well because he was such an advocate.

Our friend lives in a small townhome which is too small for Mia (who’s about 100lbs), plus she has two cats that were not happy with Mia around, so Mia is currently in boarding. Mia’s exposure to other dogs has been limited because she was always with Tony, but we do know that she has spent some time with a puppy who she absolutely adores, and she also has done well with dogs who are docile.

Mia is looking for a great home. If you know anyone who’s looking for a loyal friend, please contact us or reach out to Cookie, 805-218-1577.
