Meet Adira. She had a VERY rough start to her life - and we named her Adira - meaning 'strong.' Adira is from CA, she's one of our mommy dogs and as you can see by the photo - her circumstances were dire. Adira's puppies have found homes, now it's her turn. At about 65# and two years old, she will become a great companion for an active home.

Adira was with our partner shelter, but did not enjoy the kennel life, she was getting very stressed and acting out, she was redirecting her frustration. So we recently moved her to our friends with Evergreen School for Dogs for an evaluation and get to know her 'outside' of a shelter. After less than a day, the trainer said "just wanted to let you know that Adira is doing great! She’s so sweet and very easy to keep, great in the crate, comes when called and happy to just hang out with me. She comes across as dominant, though I don’t think she has many social skills with dogs. She’s definitely going to be adoptable though and make someone very happy." She is doing REMARKABLY well after just one day.

Adira is learning to live off a chain, the trainer thinks she could have another friendly adult male dog or two in the home. Introductions would be a must. A dog savvy home would be important. After just a few days - she was playing with all the resident dogs, even the snarky female (brown dog in video). We are beyond thrilled with her progress! Another play video: https://youtu.be/51qsDKVjZHM

From her foster: "Adira is taking long walks and HIKES! She's amazing and the trainer / fosters are loving having her. Her foster said: Adira is now better than even my personal dogs at passing people and other dogs, and has shown great play skills with three new females, frenchie, shih poo, and husky! Wyatt is her bestie, so she should be able to go to almost any home now as long as they’re worthy!"

A large fenced yard would be wonderful, and we think teen children would be OK. Apartment or Condo living is OK too - but Adira would need daily walks! She's a bit wary of strangers, but loved our ExecDirector when she picked her up from the shelter, and wants couch time with lotsa loves. It just takes her about 15 minutes to warm up. She is crate trained and housebroken.

We cat tested Adira. NO CATS or pocket pets for her!

Many rescue dogs need patience when transitioning to a new home. Our foster homes try to socialize each dog. We have made recommendations on their best home placement based on our foster home information.

Adira MUST got to training with her new family. If she's in the Arlington 'area' - you will continue to work with Evergreen School for Dogs, and we will cover the cost. Outside Arlington, we will work with you to cover training. Serious applicants only please.

Adira is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoption fee is $175. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA.

More about this rescue

Save-A-Mutt is dedicated to creating awareness about the number of adoptable dogs in shelters and rescues... and to find every dog its forever home! We do this by raising funds to A) cover the costs of transporting litters of puppies from high kill shelters to spay/neuter and adopt out; B) Focus on the welfare and final placement of Senior Dogs relinquished at area shelters, and C) assist and support local rescue groups. In addition, we hold a firm belief that 'Puppies aren't Products' and hope to stop the sale of puppies and kittens in Washington State pet stores.
