My story

Bandit is a medium (53 pounds) senior (7 year old) hound mix that was brought to when his previous owners were unable to continue caring for him. Bandit is a sweet old man with a laid back personality. He enjoys spending time with children in the local area during field trips, even showing off his tricks like "sit" and "shake". Don't let his laid back personality fool you, he is still active on occasion and loves a good old stuffed toy to cuddle up with. Bandit has gotten along with other dogs but would prefer a meet and greet with his potential best friend before being adopted. Bandit would make a great family dog, though he would prefer a home without cats. Bandit has been diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis, a tick borne disease that may require further treatment, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Make an appointment to meet Bandit today!

Additional adoption info

Adoption applicants must complete a screening form as the first step towards adopting a pet. Your application will be verified by staff who will explain the next step in your adoption process. All adoption criteria must be met before the adoption is approved. Once approved, you are under no obligation to complete the adoption if you change your mind. Pets are placed in the best possible home if there is more than one application pending. We cannot place a hold, or accept a deposit, on a pet. Adopters may legally only adopt 2 pets within a 30 day period. We can, and do, adopt to out-of-area homes given the applicant has physically interacted with the pet. We will not ship a pet. How to Find a Good Match: We have trained staff who can give you information on positive training, breed characteristics, temperament, activity level, and behavior. Please ask for assistance at the front desk, we’re more than happy to help you find a good match! If you are interested in a specific pet, note their name or intake number and inquire at (540)434-5270. Adoption Fees Dogs: $250 Puppies (younger than 6 months) $250 Small Dogs (older than 6 months and under 25 pounds) $200 Dogs (older than 6 months) $150 Senior Dogs (7 years and older) Cats: $100 Kittens (younger than 6 months) $50 Cats (older than 6 months) Rabbits: $20 Guinea Pigs: $20 Seniors for Seniors Adoption Program: Adopters age 55, or older, can adopt senior animals (age 7 or older) for 50% off their adoption fee! This makes senior cats $25 to adopt and senior dogs would be $75 to adopt. Pet Cadet Adoption Program: Active or retired military personnel receive a year-round, 50% discount on adoption fees. This is our way of saying thank you for your service. Animals play an important role in our lives and we hope that local veterans will find a loving companion animal for their family through us. (Must show military ID at the time of adoption) What does the adoption fee include? Adoption fees include any needed medical care, age-appropriate vaccines, microchipping, and spay or neuter surgery for the pet.

More about this shelter

As an open admission animal shelter, we accept any pet who comes through our doors regardless of breed, temperament, color, size, health, age, adoptability, or their previous owner’s or finder’s ability to pay for the duration of their stay with us. We do not require an appointment, surrender fee, nor a pre-surrender behavioral assessment. While not every pet we receive is healthy or temperamentally sound, we work with foster homes, limited admission “no kill” rescues, breed-specific rescues, and knowledgeable volunteers and adopters to ensure that as many pets as possible find a home. See our website rhspca.org for more information about us, and to see our list of available pets that is updated in real-time.
