My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mika von Manhagen is a gorgeous, 18-month-old German Shepherd. Not just beautiful, but brilliant — that’s Mika. She’ll impress you with her skills from day one, with knowing a myriad of commands like “sit,” “down,” “stay”, “paw” and “leave it," and being housebroken and crate-trained. She was good with children in a prior home and enjoyed games of fetch and hide 'n seek. This mid-energy pup is looking for a Shepherd-savvy home with confident people who can guide her, as she can feel the need to protect her people and property. At the rescue, she has done well meeting people and has been okay around other dogs, meeting them well on walks or in playgroups. This charming lady is always game for playtime, chase/pull-play being her favorite. Mika greets dogs and people with enthusiasm. At her core, she's a people-pup. She’s very motivated by her humans (and treats) and super eager to please. For this reason, she’s looking for people who can keep up with her aptitude and training and challenge her to learn even more. If you are looking for a young and beautiful, true Shepherd, Mika might be the one for you!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

In order to adopt any dog from Westside German Shepherd Rescue, one must fill out an adoption application first. Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
