My story

ALEX | One year old | neutered | energetic but also happy to chill | sweet

Alex is a Baladi dog, which is the name given to the stray dogs in Egypt. They are similar to the salukis, known for their athletic ability. He is young, energetic and a quick learner. Agility would be wonderful for him. A home with a yard suited to playing would be ideal. He would also benefit from having someone home a fair amount of the time. He has not been cat tested, but likely not great with cats.

Alex is a wonderful size. He's just over knee height, and slim.

Some valuable information about Alex:

1. We think he is mostly a breed called Pharaoh Hound. This explains Alex's regal bearing, his incredible hearing and graceful running gait.
2. He is a very sensitive little fellow. He feels very badly if someone raises their voice to him, and he responds better when his person gets down to his level and speaks kindly to him.
3. Once Alex has met a person and is comfortable, he is all love! Tail wagging, snuggly and lots of kisses. We have found that an introduction with cheese is the best way to his heart.
4. Alex is out like a light at 9PM every night and wakes up at 6AM for breakfast. He is very routine oriented! Once breakfast is done, he can be let out into the backyard for a bio-break, and soon after we head out for a walk! Afterward he is happy to lounge on the couch until lunch.
5. Although he does go into a crate, it is not his favourite thing to do and he is perfectly fine to be left alone, with some guidance (ie as to what is a toy and what is not.)
6. Alex LOVES going on hikes. His nose is to the ground constantly, but the adventure of new places is one of his favourite things.
7. He does not enjoy car rides and starts to feel ill/ afraid almost immediately. More exposure to the car will hopefully help.
8. Alex is perfectly okay to be the only dog in the house, but he loves other dogs so a laid back canine sibling would be great too.

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers trying to help local and international rescuers who desperately need help to rehome their dogs. It started as a fundraising effort to help them with vet costs and food so they could help more strays on the street. However, rescue is not complete without a forever home and they were overwhelmed with so many dogs and no homes to send them to. There are so many sweet, loving and friendly dogs and along with fundraising, we hope to find homes for their dogs so they can continue to help more.
