Currently being fostered in Southern California.
Contessa is an adult black brindle female Neapolitan Mastiff who was found as a stray in Downey, California. She ended up in a shelter, where she was labeled a “mastiff mix” and “very aggressive,” and the staff could only handle her with a “control stick” (catch pole). Because the shelter staff were unable to manage her behavioral issues, she received no medical attention while in their care—not even a rabies shot. The shelter estimated her to be 5 years old, but it appears she is about 3 or 4.
Although she is a gorgeous girl, she was in very poor shape. She came to us overweight, but has been on a strict diet and is now at a healthier weight. She has recovered from pneumonia and bacterial infections, and is now up to date on her shots. She has scars on her face, either from little dog bites or a skin condition, and those will likely remain. She is currently dealing with a bacterial and fungal infection on her paw. Once she is healthy enough to get entropion and spay surgeries, she will be good to go to a foster-to-adopt home.
