My story

Meet Dutch, the charismatic 2-year-old Black Mouth Cur who has captured the hearts of shelter staff and volunteers for over 300 days. Dutch is a true diamond in the rough, patiently waiting for his perfect match to come along and provide him with the loving forever home he deserves.

Dutch's adventurous spirit craves a yard to run and explore. With boundless energy and a zest for life, he would thrive in a home where he can stretch his legs and enjoy the freedom of outdoor play. A securely fenced yard would be the perfect playground for this active pup.

Independent by nature, Dutch is a dog who values his own space and autonomy. While he enjoys the company of other dogs, he is still honing his social skills and can sometimes be a bit reserved. However, during his time at the shelter, he has managed to make a few dog friends, proving that he has the potential for positive canine relationships.

Dutch would benefit from the presence of a confident and well-socialized dog in his new home. Having a four-legged companion who can show him the ropes and help him build his confidence would greatly contribute to his overall development and happiness.

When it comes to playtime, Dutch has a few favorite pastimes. He delights in chasing birds, as if on a grand adventure of his own. Additionally, he has a ball (or should we say, soccer ball) obsession and relishes the opportunity to play a spirited game of soccer with his human friends.

Treats are the way to Dutch's heart. With his keen intelligence and eagerness to please, he is highly motivated by rewards. Utilizing positive reinforcement techniques during training sessions will bring out the best in Dutch, as he's always ready to put his best paw forward in exchange for a tasty treat.

Dutch's extended stay at the shelter is a testament to his resilience and unwavering spirit. He is eagerly awaiting a family who will appreciate his unique qualities and provide him with the love, patience, and guidance he needs to blossom into the best version of himself.

If you're an experienced dog owner with a yard to offer, and you're ready to embark on an incredible journey of growth and companionship, Dutch is the loyal and adventurous partner you've been searching for. Open your heart and home to this remarkable Black Mouth Cur, and together you can create a lifetime of unforgettable memories and endless happiness.

Additional adoption info

We encourage everyone interested in adopting a new pet to come visit the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter to view the wonderful selection of cats, dogs and small animals we have available for adoption. When you see an animal you are interested in, come in as soon as possible as we are first come, first serve and are unable to place HOLDS on pets over the phone.

Speak to an Adoption Counselor at our Adoption Center regarding your interest to adopt and they will advise you of the Hold and Adoption process. All pets adopted from our facility are microchipped, spayed or neutered and vaccinated for Rabies prior to being released to the adopter. This is required by Texas State Law for any animal adopted from an animal shelter or rescue group. We do allow out of area adoptions as long as the selected pet is old enough to receive these services prior to being released to the adopter.
