My story

Cuddly, Cautious, Unique Did you know that only about 20% of orange cats are female?! That's right, orange tabby females are a rarity and here to join that unique group is adorable Carnelian! Little Miss Carnelian loves to play hard to get. She won't immediately fall for you, no matter how remarkably charming you may be. No, this little lady knows that she is quite extraordinary and it may take her some time to realize that you would really benefit from her friendship. Once she acknowledges your worthiness however she becomes the best little furry companion you could ask for and will not leave your side. She will gladly cuddle up with you both in your high and low moments of life. She's the best little companion! Unfortunately we don't know much about Carnelian's backstory before she came to us here at APA. Carnelian may have spent most of her life outdoors trying to survive and for what may be the first time in her life she doesn't have to run and hide anymore. This is a brand new lifestyle for Carnelian so it's not surprising that loud noises and fast movements still currently activate her flight response. She is still adjusting to her new indoor life but she is making remarkable progress! For example, Carnelian has become very curious and has discovered the magic of windows. She now enjoys gazing out of them and watching everything outside unfold in front of her. She has had the chance to meet dogs and once she found out they aren't as scary as they may seem she has come to love playing with them. This sweet lady has so much potential to become a lovable and lively kitty. She simply needs a loving and nurturing home that can give her the patience and love needed to make her feel safe and bloom into her best version! To meet Carnelian or find out more about her contact us today! Carnelian has tested positive for Feline Leukemia. FeLV is not a type of cancer. It's a virus that causes a weaker immune system and often a shorter life-span. For the most part, 'FeLVies' are just like any other cat. APA! waives the adoption fees of these cats, and provides FeLV-related treatment and support post-adoption. Carnelian can only live with other FeLV+ cats, but dogs and other animals are just fine! Any questions? We'd love to talk with you about FeLV care. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Carnelian, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.
