Thank you Hayley Lamastus for sponsoring Lil Man for February of 2022!!!
Little Man is a 3 to 5-year-old pitbull mix he’s been waiting a long time to find his family. In his kennel, this guy has lots of energy and can be quite vocal but is a very different dog ones outside kennel. He’s happy to meet people when they stop by his kennel for a visit. He likes to go for walks and although initially he will pull only she does settle nicely once out walking. When hanging out in the yard he’s quite independent and not a needy, all over you kind of dog. He’ll stop by and check in with you, and then gets right back to exploring his environment. He was well behaved but wiggly during physical exam. He was not particularly food motivated nor did he respond to any commitments. Little Man does well with some dogs, but all times and definitely prefers females over males. He definitely prefers to be the one in charge; he would not do well with another dog trying to boss him around. Because he is dog selective, adult meet ahead of adoption would be a must. he is not a fan of cats, so a kitty free home is necessary. We think this guy would do well in the home with family looking for a dog with moderate energy and prepared to do some initial training. Because he has been in the shelter for so long, it’s going to take a while for this guy to decompress and learn appropriate household behaviors. We think he’s probably best suited to be in a home with children 10 years of age and older.
Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; SCPR believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. More about this shelter
Second Chance Pet Rescue is a no kill animal shelter and sanctuary located in beautiful Grove, Oklahoma.
We are a life-saving shelter that houses approximately 80 dogs and 75 cats and are always operating at capacity, with more animals on a waiting list to come in than the number leaving and opening up space.
All of our animals are spayed or neutered, current on all vaccines and microchipped prior to adoption. We do not turn any pet away because of behavioral or medical issues, and once we accept an animal we commit to keeping the pet until he or she finds a home; they will stay with us not matter how long it takes to find them the perfect family.
