Adoption Policy
All applications are carefully screened by our adoption staff. With all of our adoptions, we talk with the potential adopters in detail about the animal in whom they are interested, especially if the animal has special needs.
Once an application is approved, the potential adopter is required to go through a home check. The home check ensures that the dog/cat is going into a safe and comfortable environment and that the adoption is the right fit for the dog/cat and the potential adopter. The home check is done by a Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, Inc. staff member.
The adoption donation varies per animal depending on medical cost incurred by the sanctuary.
Our adoption staff also does a follow-up after each adoption to ensure that the dog is adjusting well to his/her new home and everyone is happy with the new member of the family.
Finally, we make a lifetime commitment to any animal we accept at the sanctuary. If, for any reason, an adopter can no longer care for the animal, we request that the adopter return the animal the Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, Inc.

More about this rescue
MISSION:
To provide a safe and healthy environment for elderly, infirmed, terminal animals and to assist animal shelters with over-population of animals in need of care due to their inability to provide it, and un-adoptable animals, by providing a forever home where they can live out their lives in peace and in good health. In some cases, we do have adoptable animals, that we are trying to find good homes for.
VISION:
To wipe out the image and mindset that animals are disposable. To educate people to understand all that's involved in care of the animals and allow them an affordable alternative. To stress the need for affordable health treatment to all involved in the medical care of animals and make it happen!
Our Board of Director's
Nancy R. Benevento-Brown, President & CEO
Jan Weske-Bucholz, Vice President
Dee Dee Kramer, Director of Events and Fundraising
