My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pitbull / Chihuahua Mix
Age: approx. 1 year
Female, Spayed
15 lbs

Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations)

Misty was found hiding under the steps of a vet’s office near a local shelter. It is likely that she was dumped there. She was VERY PREGNANT, and very scared. The shelter had her quickly spayed (aborting the puppies, which were quite large and would have surgical removal anyway). When the female dog is spayed so close to giving birth, it can be extremely hard on them. They are lactating, hormones are putting them in “mom mode” but there are no puppies for them to care for. Misty was very depressed and shutdown at the shelter. We were called in to pull her into foster care.

Misty is slowly coming out of her depression and fearfulness. There are moments when she is curious and active, and other moments where she will sit in a corner hoping to be invisible. She allows all kinds of handling and seems to enjoy human interaction. She walks on a leash with some coaxing. She lives with other dogs and is okay with that.

At some point we expect her to get beyond the trauma of her lost puppies and start to blossom into the confident, playful, friendly dog that we suspect is her true nature.

She needs a quiet, patient home with another young, friendly dog her size that can help her come out of her shell.

Please note that we do not adopt any of our dogs out to families with children under the age of 13.
