My story

Hope is a lovely and special young Great Pyrenees, barely out of puppyhood at a year and a half old, in need of a special adopter who is experienced with dog experienced.  She was a bit of drama when first here but has settled in well, and will similarly need an adoptive home who can be patient during her transition to a forever home.  She was dumped at a Houston shelter by her original family for being "too protective", and while she did show some behavior at that facility, was so loving with the volunteers that the shelter advocated for her to leave with a rescue rather than face euthanasia.  Once given time to adjust here at Southpaws, while we concur she definitely has some behaviors that will likely always be a part of who she is, once settled in and understood she is pretty much easy to get along with.  Loving, an attention hog, friendly, playful, easy for those familiar to her to handle, housebroken, does fine on her own, crates well and gets along very nicely with other dogs.

She needs a dog savvy adopter who can be patient with her as she settles in and then be dedicated to a continued socialization plan for her, as she is still a puppy and with guidance can continue to make progress.  As she is sensitive and can show a quite bit of bluster when she misreads situations, she is not appropriate in a home with children and/or those who do not understand dog body language well, but in the right home will settle in reasonably promptly, and with trust built is easy to be around, predictable, and fun.   If you would like to discuss her further, or submit an application, please contact Lucy at
